Kuwait condemns Iranian drone attacks, says air defenses intercepted drones

Kuwait, August 1 (SANA)Kuwait on Saturday condemned continuedIranian drone attackstargeting a government facility and civilian equipment belonging to a private company onBubiyan Islandin northernKuwait, saying the attacks undermine regional security and stability and contribute to escalating tensions.The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement posted on the X platform that the reported attacks constitute a blatant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty and a direct threat to its security and stability, adding that they also violate international law, the UN Charter, the principles of good neighborliness and UN Security Council Resolution 2817.The ministry reaffirmed Kuwait’s right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty and protect its security, interests, and the safety of its citizens and residents.Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense said drones it identified as Iranian had breached Kuwaiti airspace and struck a government facility in northern Kuwait, as well as civilian vehicles belonging to a private company on Bubiyan Island, causing material damage but no casualties.Ministry spokesperson Colonel Staff Saud Abdulaziz al-Atwan said the armed forces detected the drones at dawn and intercepted and destroyed them, affirming the military’s readiness to protect Kuwait’s sovereignty in coordination with the relevant authorities.Earlier, the Kuwaiti Army General Staff said air-defense systems were continuing to intercept what it identified as Iranian drones that had entered Kuwaiti airspace, adding that explosions heard in some areas were the result of air-defense operations. It urged citizens and residents to follow safety instructions issued by the competent authorities.
