Internal Security arrests three over civilian massacre

Damascus, Aug. 1 (SANA)Internal Security forcesarrested three suspects accused of involvement in amass killingtargeting unarmed civilians during the rule of the ousted regime. The suspects are brothers Akram Shamma, Farzat Shamma, and Ghiyath Shamma.In a statement published on Saturday on the “X” platform, Internal Security forces said investigations supported by evidence, indications, and video footage documenting the crime showed that the detainees were involved in the detention and killing of 15 civilians during the Syrian revolution.The suspects admitted their direct responsibility for the recorded footage documenting the crime, which showed the victims with their hands tied and eyes covered. The victims were forced at gunpoint to praise the deposed regime before the suspects opened fire on them collectively, killing them all.Legal reports were prepared against the detainees, and the necessary procedures were completed in preparation for their referral to the competent judiciary to take the required legal measures.On July 30, Internal Security forces arrested Fayez Abbas Akhal and Nasr Mohammad Ghossn for their involvement in war crimes and participation alongside the toppled regime’s security forces in attacks targeting civilians in the countryside of Homs Governorate.TheMinistry of Interiorcontinues efforts to pursue officials and members of the deposed regime accused of committing war crimes and violations against the Syrian people, reaffirming the principle of preventing impunity, supporting the transitional justice process, and ensuring the rights of victims and their families.
