De espacio olvidado a joya del litoral: Presidente Abinader entrega la nueva playa El Faro en San Pedro de Macorís
San Pedro de Macorís.–President Luis Abinaderinaugurated this Friday the renovation and conditioning of El Faro beach, a work demanded for years and executed by the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) as part of the efforts to strengthen the tourism and recreational offer of the province.
The project, led by the Infrastructure Execution Committee in Tourist Areas (Ceiztur), required an investment of RD 67,000,000 and included the intervention of 570 meters in length in an area of 12,398 square meters.
By saying a few words, the head of state announced a series of works that will directly impact San Pedro de Macorís. Among these, a new Infotep headquarters stands out, while he said that the aqueduct for the southern zone is already in the bidding process.
Likewise, the president reported that the wastewater project is underway for all coastal cities in the province.
In terms of road infrastructure, Abinader assured that asphalting will continue in the province as part of the urban development plan. Likewise, he highlighted that San Pedro de Macorís is the province where the most property titles have been delivered in the country, and guaranteed that the process will continue to bring legal security to more families.
He maintained that the recovery of the beach will boost both domestic and international tourism and reaffirmed his commitment to continue working in favor of the province so that it continues to advance.
For his part, the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, assured that this administration leaves a legacy with the recovery of public spaces throughout the territory.
He explained that more than 13 boardwalks and more than 15 beaches have been recovered, "which has allowed Dominicans to live facing the sea again and not with their backs turned."
Collado highlighted that the country remains number one in tourism recovery and projected that in 2026 we will reach 12 million visitors. Finally, he defined President Luis Abinader as a serious and hard-working man, and attributed the great rebound that the tourism sector is experiencing to his management.
Collado highlighted that the work responds to an old and legitimate claim of the residents of San Pedro de Macorís and is part of a comprehensive strategy to rescue the country's public spaces and seafronts.
The intervention complements the recovery of the city's boardwalk, where Mitur previously invested RD 267 million.
The improvements carried out transformed the space into a modern, safe and familiar destination. The new environment of El Faro beach has an area for fishermen, with service modules and sanitary facilities; parking and road intervention.
Likewise, children's games; volleyball court; lightning; landscaping; urban furniture, which includes benches, bollards and trash cans; and a booth for the Tourist Police (Politur) with the aim of reinforcing the security of visitors.
In addition, public bathrooms, a storm drainage system were built to mitigate the risk of flooding, as well as the paving of streets, sidewalks and curbs in surrounding neighborhoods.
The inauguration of this work represents a significant step in the process of revitalization of public and tourist spaces in the province, consolidating El Faro beach as one of the main attractions of the Petromacorisano coast and boosting the local economy.
