Syria chess team records strong start at Arab youth championships

Cairo, July 31 (SANA)Syria’s chess team made a strong start at the Arab Individual Chess Championship for juniors and youth inEgypt, recording several positive results in the opening rounds of thetournament.The third round of the competition continued on Friday, with players from 16 Arab countries taking part in the event, which runs until Aug. 5.Syria opened its campaign with three victories in the first round. Saad Taloulstan defeated Kuwait’s Daraj Al Fahad, Bilsan Jandal beat Morocco’s Nyama Al Kouz, and Aseel Jandal secured a win over theUnited Arab Emirates‘ Badriyah Mohammed Al Suwaidi.

In the second round, Fawaz Oqeili defeated Morocco’s Kenan Al Shaqrouni, while Taloulstan drew against Libya’s Ahmed Ezz Al Din Qweiri.The tournament brings together some of the region’s leading young chess players competing across junior and youth categories.
