RD capta USD 3,276.5 millones en inversión extranjera directa durante el primer semestre de 2026

Santo Domingo.–The Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana) highlighted the preliminary results published by the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD), according to which foreign direct investment (FDI) reached USD 3,276.5 million during the first half of 2026, an interannual growth of 7.7%, equivalent to an additional USD 233.4 million compared to the same period of the previous year, constituting the largest amount recorded for a January-June period.

Likewise, he highlighted that this performance occurs in an international context characterized by an uneven recovery of global investment flows and growing competition between economies to attract strategic projects, according to the World Investment Report 2026 (World Investment Report 2026) of UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

Of the total received during the semester, it is highlighted that US 2,194.6 million, equivalent to 67.0% of FDI, corresponded to new capital contributions from investors, which reflects the entry of additional resources to finance new investments and the expansion or strengthening of existing operations, beyond the reinvestment of profits of already established companies.

Regarding the sectoral composition, investment was mainly concentrated in energy (27.8%), tourism (20.1%), real estate development (12.4%) and mining (12.4%), sectors that together captured 72.7% of the flows, confirming the dynamism of the main drivers of the Dominican economy, while strengthening the opportunities to continue diversifying the attraction of investments towards activities with greater added value.

Finally, ProDominicanar highlighted that the results presented by the Central Bank strengthen the economic outlook for the end of 2026. Official projections estimate that foreign direct investment will exceed USD 5.3 billion, which would mark another year of high performance in capital raising and would contribute to the Dominican Republic registering foreign exchange earnings of more than USD 50 billion, also driven by tourism, remittances and exports. In this last component, exports reached a total of USD 8,745.7 million during the first half of the year, with a year-on-year growth of 16.6%, consolidating a trajectory of sustained growth, reflecting the dynamism and competitiveness of the Dominican export sector and strengthening expectations that exports continue to play a fundamental role in the country's economic growth.
