Ministro de Cultura anuncia festival que integrará a las seis provincias de la región Este
Higüey.- The Ministry of Culture presented this Wednesday the details of "This Festival", an event that will bring together, from August 28 to 30, the main artistic, heritage and traditional manifestations of the six provinces that make up the Eastern region of the country, as part of the decentralization policy promoted by the entity.
The announcement of the event, which in this version is dedicated to the renowned artisan Genaro “Cayuco” Reyes, was made during a press conference headed by the Minister of Culture, Roberto Ángel Salcedo, at the Higüey campus of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).
The official explained that the initiative seeks to consolidate itself as a meeting space to make visible the cultural wealth of the Dominican East and strengthen its regional identity.
Salcedo highlighted that this project continues the Ministry of Culture's strategy of bringing high-level artistic and cultural programming to the different regions of the national territory, promoting the participation of communities and the recognition of their cultural expressions.
“Within the programmatic agenda of the festival, and in collaboration with the senators of this prolific region, there will be an event to recognize the prominent cultural figures of the six provinces,” the minister revealed.
Present at the event were the director of the UASD campus in Higüey, Johnnie Santana; the governors of the provinces of La Altagracia, Daysi de Óleo; Hato Mayor, Maribel Simón Vargas; San Pedro de Macorís, Yovanis Núñez de Tavárez, and Monte Plata, Rafaela Javier Gomera, as well as the senator for the province of La Altagracia, Rafael Barón “Cholitín” Duluc Rijo.
Likewise, the Vice Minister of Cultural Identity and Citizenship, Pastor de Moya, and of Creativity and Artistic Training, Amaury Sánchez, among other national authorities and from the different demarcations of the Eastern region, were also present.
The festival will have the participation of the provinces of Monte Plata, San Pedro de Macorís, Hato Mayor, La Romana, El Seibo and La Altagracia, which will present some of their most representative cultural expressions, thereby turning the meeting into a broad display of regional diversity and heritage.
During the three days, the Higüey campus of the UASD will host presentations of typical music, traditional dances, theater, visual arts, oral literature, gastronomy and crafts, in addition to other expressions of popular art that are part of the cultural legacy of the communities of the East.
The programming will also include thematic spaces aimed at audiences of all ages. These include a children's area, recreational activities, artistic workshops and storytelling; a young area, oriented towards contemporary cultural expressions and creative exchange; a stand from the Editora Nacional, with publications by Dominican authors, and an exhibition dedicated to the carnival identities of the region.
Likewise, artistic galas will be held by the participating provinces, an exhibition of local crafts and a space for reflection on the preservation of material and intangible cultural heritage, in order to promote and value the traditions that are part of the identity of the Eastern Dominican Republic.
The minister highlighted that the festival has been conceived as a scenario for exchange between the participating provinces, aimed at strengthening the links between their communities and projecting the artistic, historical and heritage wealth of the region at the national level.
With this initiative, the Ministry of Culture continues to expand its program of regional festivals, after the celebration of the Cultural Festival of the Enriquillo Region, held in Barahona, as part of a strategy aimed at decentralizing the cultural offer and bringing artistic, cultural and literary activities closer to the different regions of the Dominican Republic.

De igual manera, se contó con la presencia del viceministro de Identidad Cultural y Ciudadanía,Pastor de Moya, y de Creatividad y Formación Artística,Amaury Sánchez, entre otras autoridades nacionales y de las diferentes demarcaciones de la región Este. El festival contará con la participación de las provinciasMonte Plata, San Pedro de Macorís, Hato Mayor, La Romana, El Seibo y La Altagracia, que presentarán algunas de sus expresiones culturales más representativas, con lo cual convertirán el encuentro en unaamplia muestra de la diversidad y el patrimonio regional. Durante lastres jornadas, el recinto Higüey de la UASD acogerá presentaciones de música típica, bailes tradicionales, teatro, artes visuales, literatura oral, gastronomía y artesanía, además de otrasexpresiones del arte popularque forman parte dellegado cultural de las comunidades del Este. La programación incluirá, además, espacios temáticos dirigidos a públicos de todas las edades. Entre ellos figuran un área infantil, conactividades recreativas, talleres artísticos y cuentacuentos; un área joven, orientada a lasexpresiones culturales contemporáneasy alintercambio creativo; un estand de la Editora Nacional, conpublicacionesde autores dominicanos, y una exposición dedicada a lasidentidades carnavalescasde la región. Asimismo, se celebrarángalas artísticasa cargo de las provincias participantes, una muestra deartesanía localy un espacio de reflexión sobre lapreservación del patrimonio cultural material e inmaterial, con el fin de promover y valorar las tradiciones que forman parte de la identidad del Este dominicano.
