ETED duplica capacidad de transmisión eléctrica en Puerto Plata con inversión superior a RD 60 millones
Puerto Plata.-More than 337,000 inhabitants of the northern part of the country, mainly in the province of Puerto Plata, will benefit from the reinforcement of the 69 kV Puerto Plata I–Puerto Plata II transmission line, a work carried out by the Dominican Electric Transmission Company (ETED) with an investment of more than RD 60 million. It doubles the energy transport capacity, exceeding 150 megawatts (MW), eliminates overload conditions and strengthens the reliability of the electrical service.
The executive vice president of the ETED, Alfonso Rodríguez Tejada, highlighted that the conclusion of this work reflects the institutional commitment to strengthen the transmission infrastructure to respond in a timely manner to the needs of the country. "We fulfilled what we announced: four days planned, executed with rigor and with concrete results for Puerto Plata. Today the northern zone has a line with double the capacity, which supports its tourist, commercial and productive development, for the benefit of the population," he expressed.
The director of Maintenance and Infrastructure, engineer Wascar Liriano Lorenzo, explained that the intervention prevents the growth in demand from leading the line to operate in overload conditions, especially in periods of highest consumption. “Now we have greater capacity to transport energy, we reduce the pressure on the infrastructure and keep the network prepared to meet the current and future needs of Puerto Plata,” he stated.
The project was carried out in four stages on Saturdays in July, over an area of 3.5 kilometers, with the deployment of 20 heavy equipment, including basket-type trucks and cranes, and 15 logistical support vehicles.
The work was carried out by the institution's own brigades from various areas of the country, a modality that allowed the costs of the intervention to be reduced by more than 50%.
The works included the renovation of 100% of the structures, the placement of more than 150 insulators, the installation of approximately 12,000 meters of conductor in a configuration of two conductors per phase, and the maintenance of the Puerto Plata I and Puerto Plata II substations. The Northern Zone Network Maintenance Manager, Jonathan Hernández, highlighted that the 3.5 kilometers of the line were completely rehabilitated and in service.
This work is part of the axis of strengthening the transmission and distribution networks of the energy roadmap presented by the Dominican Government, aimed at preparing the electrical system for the sustained growth of national demand.
The ETED is the state company responsible for the transportation of high-voltage electrical energy, the operation of the National Interconnected Electrical System (SENI) and the expansion of the transmission network, which reaffirms its commitment as an enabler of the energy and digital transition of the Dominican Republic.

El proyecto se ejecutó encuatro etapasdurante los sábados del mes de julio, sobre una extensión de 3.5 kilómetros, con el despliegue de 20 equipos pesados, entre camiones tipo canasto y grúas, y 15 vehículos de soporte logístico. La obra fue realizada porbrigadas propias de la instituciónprocedentes de varias zonas del país, una modalidad que permitió reducir los costos de la intervención en más de un 50 %. Los trabajos incluyeron larenovación del 100 % de las estructuras, la colocación de más de 150 aisladores, la instalación de aproximadamente 12,000 metros de conductor en configuración de dos conductores por fase, y elmantenimiento de las subestaciones Puerto Plata I y Puerto Plata II. El gerente de Mantenimiento de Redes Zona Norte,Jonathan Hernández, destacó que los3.5 kilómetros de la líneaquedaroncompletamente rehabilitadosy en servicio. Esta obra se inscribe en el eje de fortalecimiento de las redes de transmisión y distribución de lahoja de ruta energética presentada por el Gobierno dominicano, orientada a preparar el sistema eléctrico ante el crecimiento sostenido de la demanda nacional. La ETED es laempresa estatal responsable del transporte de energía eléctrica en alta tensión, de la operación del Sistema Eléctrico Nacional Interconectado(SENI)y de laexpansiónde la red de transmisión, lo cual reafirma su compromiso como habilitador de la transición energética y digital de la República Dominicana.
