Washington/Amman, July 29 (SANA)TheUnited States and Jordansaid Wednesday they intercepted missiles launched fromIranin separate incidents, as regional tensions escalated following renewed wave of U.S strikes inside Iran.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched multiple ballistic missiles targeting American forces stationed in theMiddle East, adding that all of the missiles were successfully intercepted.

In a statement posted on X, CENTCOM said the attack was intended as a surprise strike againstU.S. forcesin the region. It did not identify the location of the attempted attacks, saying that U.S. forces remain on high alert.

The announcement came two days after U.S. PresidentDonald Trumpsaid he was prepared to take “strong military action” if negotiations with Iran failed, following his decision to temporarily suspend military strikes.

InJordan, the country’s armed forces said air defense systems intercepted five missiles launched from Iran that were heading toward Jordanian territory early Wednesday.

TheJordanian militarysaid the missiles were detected and destroyed in accordance with its rules of engagement, adding that the armed forces remain prepared to respond to any threat to the kingdom’s security and sovereignty.

Jordan said it had also shot down three drones over the previous two days after they entered the country’s airspace, adding that no casualties were reported.
