Riyadh, July 29 (SANA)Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday that the precision strikes carried out by the Saudi Armed Forces, in coordination with the US Central Command, against an Iran-backed militia inIraqwere in response to attacks targeting vital oil facilities in the Eastern Region andRiyadh.The ministry said the Kingdom’s actions were based on its right to self-defense under international law, stressing thatSaudi Arabiadoes not seek escalation but will take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, protect its citizens, and preserve its resources.It added that the actions of Iran-aligned militias in Iraq come as Saudi Arabia is working to reduce regional tensions. The ministry said these groups have continued launching drones and targeting critical infrastructure, in violation of international law and the principles of good neighborliness.Meanwhile, Ministry of Defense spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Maliki said the strikes targeted launch sites used for attacks carried out from Iraqi territory.He added that the operations followed earlier interceptions and destruction of drones attempting to target key oil facilities, stressing that the Saudi Armed Forces will continue responding firmly to any threat to the Kingdom’s security and stability.
