Algeria elects Khalida Boughdache as first woman speaker of parliament
Algiers, July 29 (SANA)–Algeria’s People‘s National Assembly elected National Liberation Front (FLN) lawmaker Khalida Boughdache as its speaker late Tuesday, making her the first woman to hold the post since the legislature was established.
According to theAlgerian Press Service(APS), Boughdache won 302 votes, defeating Amin Allouche of the Movement of Society for Peace (MSP), who received 57 votes, and Rachid Hassani of the Rally for Culture and Democracy (RCD), who secured seven votes.
Boughdache previously served as a member of the Bordj El Bahri Municipal People’s Assembly from 2012 to 2017 before being elected toAlgeria‘s People’s National Assembly in 2021.
