Presidente Peña acompaña la asunción de Keiko Fujimori en Perú
The ceremony took place in the Congress of the Republic of Peru, with the presence of heads of state, national authorities and international delegations. The Paraguayan delegation was made up of the first lady, Leticia Ocampos, and authorities from the Executive and Legislative branches.
In this context, the head of state held a bilateral meeting with the new president. When referring to the beginning of this stage, President Peña highlighted the closeness between both peoples and the potential for a more active relationship.
"Paraguay has enormous affection for the people of Peru. We see this new constitutional period with enormous optimism to strengthen the ties between our countries," he expressed.
The head of state maintained that the beginning of a new administration opens an opportunity for the different political and social sectors of Peru to work behind common objectives, with respect for the independence of the powers of the State and with the priority placed on improving the quality of life of the population, especially the most vulnerable sectors.
Likewise the experience and political perseverance of President Fujimori. When remembering his own electoral career, he stated that “neither victories nor defeats are permanent” and highlighted the importance of maintaining the vocation of service and continuing to work.
A new stage for regional integration
The bilateral agenda allowed progress on specific issues to expand exchange and cooperation between Paraguay and Peru. It was agreed to deepen the Economic Complementation Agreement No. 58 of the ALADI and analyze mechanisms to better take advantage of trade opportunities between both countries.
The President recognized that bilateral exchange is still below its potential, a reality that also reflects the low level of trade integration in Latin America. In that sense, he raised the need to bring Mercosury closer to the countries linked to the Pacific Alliance, with a practical view aimed at facilitating trade and investment.
One of the central points was the logistical coordination through the Peruvian ports of Ilo and Matarani and its connection with the Bioceanic Corridor. This infrastructure will allow expanding the alternative outlets for Paraguayan production to the Pacific Ocean and bring the country closer to new markets.
Security cooperation also took a priority place. The Minister of the Interior Enrique Riera accompanied the President and began conversations with the new Peruvian authorities, with the aim of strengthening coordination against transnational organized crime.
As part of the economic agenda, the president also met with representatives of the Paraguayan-Peruvian Chamber of Commerce. The businessmen highlighted the business climate and the confidence that Paraguay projects towards foreign investors, while initiatives to attract capital, expand exchange and generate new employment opportunities were analyzed.
Connectivity and new markets for Paraguay
President Santiago Peña also held a working meeting with the Head of Government of Aruba, Mike Eman. The delegations analyzed the potential of developing a connectivity hub between Paraguay, the Caribbean and North America, given the growing movement of Paraguayan travelers to different destinations.
Likewise, progress was made in agreements aimed at facilitating the entry of Paraguayan products, including meat, and strengthening bilateral trade. A greater opening of this market can boost the national industry, attract investments and favor the creation of new sources of work.
The head of state also held meetings with the Minister of State for International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, Reem Al Hashimy, and with King Felipe VI of Spain, as part of the dialogue agenda with strategic partners.
The participation of President Santiago Peña in the presidential inauguration of Peru accompanies the beginning of a new political cycle and strengthens an agenda aimed at converting regional integration into more connectivity, trade, investments and opportunities for Paraguay.

Se acordó profundizar elAcuerdo de Complementación Económica N.º 58 de la ALADIy analizar mecanismos para aprovechar mejor las oportunidades comerciales entre ambos países. El Presidente reconoció que el intercambio bilateral todavía se encuentra por debajo de su potencial, una realidad que también refleja el bajo nivel de integración comercial de América Latina. En ese sentido, planteó la necesidad de acercar alMercosury a los países vinculados a laAlianza del Pacífico, con una mirada práctica orientada a facilitar el comercio y la inversión. Uno de los puntos centrales fue la articulación logística mediante los puertos peruanos deIlo y Mataraniy su conexión con elCorredor Bioceánico. Esta infraestructura permitirá ampliar las alternativas de salida de la producción paraguaya hacia el océano Pacífico y acercar al país a nuevos mercados. La cooperación en seguridad también ocupó un lugar prioritario.
