Speaking at the 2nd Communications Council, President Erdoğan said: “We regard combatting disinformation in all its forms as a matter of national security in terms of our country, democracy and social peace. That is so because disinformation has today gone beyond merely spreading false information, and has turned into an asymmetric factor that weakens societies’ sense of unity and trust, and that threatens democracies.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the opening event of the 2ndCommunications Council organized by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications in Ankara.

“We regard combatting disinformation in all its forms as a matter of national security in terms of our country, democracy and social peace. That is so because disinformation has today gone beyond merely spreading false information, and has turned into an asymmetric factor that weakens societies’ sense of unity and trust, and that threatens democracies. With this understanding, we will determinedly continue our fight against disinformation in line with the vital importance of the matter,” President Erdoğan said.

“No matter how strong and deterrent you are militarily, no matter how rooted your family and social structures are, no matter how solid your institutions are, no matter how rich your natural resources are, no matter how resilient your economy is, no matter how advanced your agriculture and industry are, you cannot build a prosperous and peaceful future if you are unable to preserve truth properly and in all its dimensions. In a world where lies spread rapidly and the voice of the oppressed is not sufficiently heard, the importance of the struggle for the truth increases even more. That is why it is our priority to safeguard and fortify our digital sovereignty. A strong and secure communications infrastructure is indeed one of the most critical instruments of digital sovereignty,” President Erdoğan stated.

“WE HAVE THE CAPABILITY TO REACH 5 BILLION PEOPLE THROUGH OUR OWN SATELLITES”

Noting that Türkiye currently has the capability to reach 5 billion people through its own satellites, President Erdoğan added: “Our films, TV series and documentaries, which reflect our identity and culture and bring our history and national values to the screens, are watched with great admiration across the world. The international public knows Türkiye not any more through scripts written only by others or films created entirely for smear campaigns, rather recognizing us through our films, series, documentaries, digital platforms and cultural activities that reflect our own culture and reality. This is an extremely valuable achievement that increases our country’s soft power, carries our nation’s heritage and values to the world and tells our story. We are determined to further expand this achievement.”
