Improving the status of species and habitat types in the Natura 2000 sites of Pohorje - Pohorka

The project aims to improve the status of species and habitat types in the Pohorje Natura 2000 site, which encompasses parts of the Podravska, Koroška and Savinjska regions. Pohorje is an area of exceptional natural value, known for its extensive forests, marshes, streams, and species-rich grasslands, which have been preserved in part due to traditional land use.

As part of the project, measures will be implemented to improve the condition of the most threatened habitats and species. Activities will focus on restoring grassland, forest, and wetland habitats; improving forest structure; restoring degraded areas; and providing quiet areas for wild species. A permanent network of ecological corridors will also be established, which will significantly contribute to the long-term conservation of biodiversity.

The project will contribute to the conservation and improvement of 10 habitat types and more than 20 indicator plant and animal species, including the wood grouse and the corn crake.These measures will reduce pressure on the most threatened habitats and improve the ecological connectivity of the area.

For the project, with a total value of €4,674,824.16, the European Regional Development Fund will contribute €3,969,189.04.

The beneficiaries are the Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Nature Conservation, the Municipality of Mislinja, the Koroška Regional Development Agency, Slovenian State Forests, d. o. o., and the Slovenian Forest Service.

Marshes and wetland meadows – MOČvira

The project Marshes and wetland meadows – MOČvira aims to improve the conservation status of habitat types and species associated with marshes and wet meadows within Natura 2000 sites in southwestern and central Slovenia, as well as in the Gorenjska region.

The project will restore and improve the living environment of endangered species and habitats. Activities will include land acquisition, establishing appropriate site management, removing overgrowth and invasive alien species, improving hydrological conditions, renaturation, and adapting agricultural practices. The measures will be implemented across a total area of 72.73 hectares.

The project will help improve the status of three habitat types and several qualifying species whose survival is closely linked to preserved wetland ecosystems. The restoration of these areas will strengthen their natural resilience and support the long-term conservation of biodiversity.

For the project, with a total value of €3,351,673.30, the European Regional Development Fund will contribute €1,784,751.58.

The beneficiaries are the Grosuplje Tourism and Promotion Institute, the Municipality of Črnomelj, the Municipality of Grosuplje, RIC Bela Krajina, and the Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Nature Conservation.
