Saddened to learn of the passing of former Member of Parliament for Havelock, Mr Lim Soo Peng. As MP, Mr Lim worked hard to improve the living conditions of his residents, laying the foundations for the area’s subsequent urban transformation. After stepping down from politics, he devoted himself to serving the community. Appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1966, he went on to serve as a Home Team volunteer for an extraordinary 55 years, supporting inmates and those undergoing rehabilitation in our Prisons and Drug Rehabilitation Centres. He believed in listening to people, understanding their circumstances, and giving them a second chance. He was a steadfast advocate for their welfare, rehabilitation and successful reintegration into society. Mr Lim exemplified a lifetime of service and quiet dedication to others. Singapore owes pioneers like him a deep debt of gratitude. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
