Damascus, July 28 (SANA)Two people were killed and 28 others injured in 23 traffic accidents across Syria, including Damascus and centralSyria, over the past 24 hours, theSyrian Civil Defensesaid Tuesday.

In a statement posted on its Telegram channel Tuesday, the Civil Defense said its teams provided first aid to the injured and transported them to hospitals for treatment. The teams also cleared debris and secured the accident sites.

The Civil Defense teams responded to 119firesinvolving homes, commercial shops, grass, trees, waste and electrical wires, the statement said. All the fires were extinguished and their sites cooled, with no injuries reported and damage limited to property losses.

The Civil Defense urged drivers to reduce speed and check the roadworthiness of their vehicles, including brakes and windshield wipers. It also called on drivers to avoid distractions such as mobile phone use while driving.

The Civil Defense renewed its warning against lighting fires in forested areas and agricultural fields and against throwing cigarette butts or glass containers along roadsides, particularly near crops and forests.

It also urged residents to avoid burning dry grass around homes or along roads and to remove dry vegetation safely.

On Sunday, Civil Defense teams responded to 149 fires andtraffic accidentsin several Syrian governorates, leaving one person dead and 24 others injured, according to the statement.
