Damascus, July 28 (SANA)TheSyrian Football Associationhonored the national under-17 women’s football team on Monday after it won the West Asia U-17 Girls’ Championship in Amman, Jordan.

The ceremony, held at Al-Fayhaa Sports City in Damascus, was attended by Deputy Minister of Sports and Youth Jamal al-Sharif and the minister’s adviser, Majd al-Haj Ahmad.

Al-Haj Ahmad told SANA the team’s achievement reflected determination and perseverance and had brought joy to Syrians. He said the squad is preparing for theAFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cupqualifiers and that the ministry would provide the necessary support to the players and coaching staff ahead of the next stage.

Head coach Hisham al-Sharbini said the team produced strong performances throughout the tournament and deserved to lift the title, adding that the players gave their utmost to represent Syria in international competition.

Several players said they were proud to have won the championship and grateful for the reception they received alongside the technical and administrative staff. They pledged to continue working toward qualification for the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup finals.

Syria secured the West Asia U-17 Girls’ Championship on Sunday after defeating Lebanon 4-3 in a penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw in regulation time.
