Ministerio de Salud reconoce labor del Equipo Médico de Emergencia tras misión humanitaria en Venezuela
Santo Domingo.- For their commitment and dedication in responding to the emergency caused by the recent earthquakes in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Ministry of Health recognized the 40 members of the Emergency Medical Team of the Dominican Republic (EMT-RD), who offered health care to the affected communities.
During the event led by the Minister of Health, Víctor Atallah, and the Vice Minister of Risk Management and Environmental Health, Gina Estrella, each of the members of the brigade received a scroll of recognition for their dedication, professionalism and dedication to service demonstrated during the 12 days of operations. Likewise, special recognition plaques were awarded to the leaders of the groups that made up the mission, in honor of their leadership and commitment during the humanitarian deployment, as well as a special plaque to the vice minister, for her coordination and support in the response provided by the EMT-RD.
The minister highlighted that the members of the EMT-RD represent a source of pride for the Dominican Republic and that their performance raised the name of the country during the humanitarian mission.
"You have a place in the history of our country and in the hearts of the Venezuelan people. Be proud of all the effort made to prepare, because today it was proven that it was worth it. The Dominican Republic recognizes you as heroes for your human quality, efficiency, dedication and solidarity," he expressed.
Likewise, he stated that the experience allowed us to verify the impact of Dominican solidarity in the affected communities and the high level of preparation of the team to respond to emergency situations.
For her part, the vice minister highlighted that the mission tested years of preparation and strengthening of the Emergency Medical Team, consolidating the country's response capacity to disasters.
"You proudly represented the Ministry of Public Health and the Dominican Republic, raising the name of our country. Behind this achievement there are years of preparation, sacrifice and a firm vocation to serve. This recognition belongs to each one of you," he stated.
During the humanitarian mission, carried out for 12 days, the EMT-RD treated 2,502 people, offering general medicine, pediatrics, gynecology and mental health consultations. In addition, it performed diagnostic tests, applied vaccines, distributed medications and carried out public health actions related to water, sanitation, health promotion and vector control.
According to the final report of the mission, the Dominican brigade performed nearly 28% of the medical care provided by the international Emergency Medical Teams deployed in Venezuela, evidencing the technical and operational capacity of the country to respond effectively in disaster scenarios.
The mission that was providing care in Venezuela was highlighted by the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), for the work carried out.
Likewise, the Government of Venezuela sent a certificate of recognition to each of those who participated, for their contribution during the time they were in the country.
The interim representative of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) in the Dominican Republic, Bernardino Vitoy, and the organization's Communicable Diseases advisor, Romeo Montoya, participated in the activity.

Asimismo, fueron entregadas placas de reconocimiento especiales a los líderes de los grupos que integraron la misión, en honor a su liderazgo y compromiso durante eldespliegue humanitario,así como una placa especial a la viceministra, por su coordinación y apoyo en la respuesta brindada por elEMT-RD. El ministro destacó que los integrantes del EMT-RDrepresentan un orgullopara la República Dominicana y que su desempeño dejó en alto el nombre del país durante lamisión humanitaria. “Ustedes tienen un lugar en la historia de nuestro país y en el corazón del pueblo venezolano. Siéntanse orgullosos de todo el esfuerzo realizado para prepararse, porque hoy quedó demostrado que valió la pena. La República Dominicana los reconoce como héroes por su calidad humana, eficiencia, entrega y solidaridad”,expresó. Asimismo, afirmó que la experiencia permitió constatarel impacto de la solidaridad dominicanaen las comunidades afectadas y el alto nivel de preparación del equipo pararesponderante situaciones de emergencia. Por su parte, la viceministra resaltó que la misión puso a prueba años depreparación y fortalecimientodel Equipo Médico de Emergencia, consolidando la capacidad de respuesta del país ante desastres. “Representaron con orgullo al Ministerio de Salud Pública y a la República Dominicana, dejando en alto el nombre de nuestro país. Detrás de este logro hay años de preparación, sacrificio y una firme vocación de servicio. Este reconocimiento le pertenece a cada uno de ustedes”,manifestó. Durante la misión humanitaria, desarrolladadurante 12 días, el EMT-RD atendió a2,502 personas, ofreciendo consultas demedicina general, pediatría, ginecología y salud mental. Además, realizó pruebas diagnósticas, aplicó vacunas, distribuyó medicamentos y ejecutó acciones de salud pública relacionadas con agua, saneamiento, promoción de la salud y control vectorial. De acuerdo con el informe final de la misión, la brigada dominicana realizó cerca del28 % de las atenciones médicasbrindadas por los Equipos Médicos de Emergencia internacionales desplegados en Venezuela, evidenciando la capacidadtécnica y operativadel país para responder de manera efectiva en escenarios de desastre. La misión que estuvo brindando atención en Venezuela fue resaltada por laOrganización Panamericana de la Salud/Organización Mundial de la Salud(OPS/OMS), por el trabajo realizado. De igual manera, elGobierno de Venezuelaenvió un certificado de reconocimiento a cada uno de los que participaron, por su aporte durante el tiempo que estuvieron en el país. En la actividad participaron el representante interino de la Organización Panamericana de la Salud/Organización Mundial de la Salud (OPS/OMS) en la República Dominicana,Bernardino Vitoy, y el asesor de Enfermedades Transmisibles de la organización,Romeo Montoya.
