Ministro de Cultura encabeza en Toronto el Festival de Cultura Panamericano, dedicado a la República Dominicana
Toronto, Canada.- The Minister of Culture, Roberto Ángel Salcedo, led the inauguration of the fourteenth edition of the Panamerican Food and Music Festival (PanamFest), which this year had the Dominican Republic as the guest of honor, bringing to the fore the cultural, gastronomic and artistic wealth of the Caribbean nation.
Considered Canada's largest multicultural platform dedicated to celebrating the cultures of the Americas, the festival was held from Friday to Sunday in Nathan Phillips Square, across from Toronto City Hall.
During the opening ceremony, Minister Salcedo highlighted the importance of the Dominican Republic having been chosen as the guest of honor of this edition, considering that it constitutes a valuable opportunity to project the cultural, artistic and gastronomic wealth of the country internationally, as well as to strengthen ties with the Dominican community residing in Canada.
Throughout the weekend, the programming offered a wide sample of the Dominican identity through presentations of merengue and bachata, both inscribed by UNESCO in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, in addition to craft exhibitions, larimar pieces, tourism promotion and a varied gastronomic offer with emblematic dishes such as mangú, sancocho, fried foods with salami and traditional sweets.
The festival agenda also brought together more than 600 artists, who will offer shows of salsa, cumbia, bachata, reggae, reggaeton and folk dances representative of different countries on the continent.
Another of the main attractions is the so-called “World Food Cup”, a culinary proposal that brought together more than twenty international chefs and included live gastronomic competitions and tastings open to the public.
Likewise, the festival celebrated the traditional Panamerican Parade, a colorful parade of troupes, flags and typical costumes that tours the venue exalting the cultural diversity of the continent. The programming also included the Panamerican Star space, designed to promote the talent of children and adolescents under 17 years of age in disciplines such as music and dance.
The Panamerican Food and Music Festival was founded in 2012 by Daniel García Herreros, a Colombian cultural manager based in Canada, with the purpose of making visible the diversity of the Hispanic and Pan-American diaspora in Ontario through a free platform for artists, gastronomic entrepreneurs and community organizations.
Thanks to the work of volunteers and the support of consulates, small businesses and non-profit organizations, the event has established itself as one of the most important outdoor cultural festivals of the summer in Toronto and has been recognized by the Government of Canada for its contribution to multiculturalism, inclusion and community integration through arts and culture.

La agenda del festival también reunió amás de 600 artistas, quienes ofrecerán espectáculos desalsa, cumbia, bachata, reggae, reguetón y danzas folclóricasrepresentativas de distintos países del continente. Otro de los principales atractivos es la denominada“Copa Mundial de la Comida”,una propuesta culinaria que reunió amás de veinte chefs internacionalesy que incluyó competencias gastronómicas en vivo y degustaciones abiertas al público. Asimismo, el festival celebró el tradicionalPanamerican Parade, un colorido desfile de comparsas, banderas y trajes típicos que recorre el recinto exaltando la diversidad cultural del continente. La programación incluyó, además, el espacioPanamerican Star, concebido para promover el talento de niños y adolescentes menores de 17 años en disciplinas como lamúsica y la danza.
