New York, July 27 (SANA)UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, reaffirmed Monday the United Nations’ commitment to supporting Syria, calling on the international community to stand by the Syrian people during what he described as a pivotal stage for the country’s future.

“I’ve just concluded a deeply meaningful visit of solidarity with Syria and its wonderful people, I’ve seen the scars left by years of conflict, I’ve heard about pain, loss, displacement and fear,” Guterres posted on X.

Guterresarrived in Damascus last Saturday on the first visit to Syria by a UN secretary-general since 2009. He said the country was entering a recovery phase that offered investment opportunities and could serve as a pillar of regional stability.
