HE The President of the Republic, José Antonio Kast, led this Monday at the La Moneda Palace the signing of the constitutional reform project that incorporates a new cause for cessation of office for authorities who register consumption of illicit narcotic or psychotropic substances. The initiative also establishes the obligation to undergo a drug detection test when taking office and periodically thereafter, in accordance with the manner determined by law. Likewise, it provides that the results of these examinations are public and that the detection of the consumption of said substances constitutes a cause for dismissal from office, in accordance with the applicable regulations. The project seeks to strengthen the principles of transparency and probity in the exercise of public function, establishing a common standard for the authorities included in the constitutional reform. The measure will be applicable to ministers of State, undersecretaries, senators, deputies, regional and provincial presidential delegates, regional governors, regional councilors, mayors and councillors.
