The President of the Government of Spain reiterated the Government's commitment to the quality of Spain's university system.

The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, held a meeting with the new governing board of the CRUE (Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities), which has been chaired by Julián Garde since the organisation's general assembly held last May. The meeting, held at Moncloa Palace, was also attended by the Minister for Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant. The CRUE currently comprises all 50 Spanish public universities and 27 private universities. The CRUE brings together most of the country's universities and acts as the university system's main representative in dealings with public authorities.

At the meeting, the president reiterated the Government's commitment to the quality of Spain's university system and emphasised that, during this parliamentary term, the Executive has increased the UNED's budget by nearly 60%, boosted funding for university research projects and talent attraction by 50%, and raised university scholarship funding by over 80%. This commitment is also reflected in the €900 million allocated to the María Goyri programme, which will fund 3,400 posts for assistant lecturers throughout Spain over a six-year period. This programme also entails the creation of an additional 2,236 positions funded by the Autonomous Communities.
