Guterres says Israel’s violations of 1974 Syria disengagement agreement ‘must stop’

Damascus, July 26 (SANA)U.N. Secretary-GeneralAntónio Guterressaid on Sunday that Israel’s violations of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement were “unacceptable” and must end, while reaffirming support for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“Violations by Israel of the1974 Disengagementof Forces Agreement are unacceptable and must stop,” Guterres said in a post on X.He added that “Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity must be fully respected.”

Guterres arrived in Syria on Saturday on the first visit by a U.N. secretary-general since 2009. During the visit, he reaffirmed theUnited Nations‘ support for Syria and called on the international community to step up efforts to assist the Syrian people.Israelcontinues to violate the 1974 Disengagement Agreement through its incursions into southern Syria, assaulting civilians through raids and arrests, bulldozing land, and shelling.

Syria consistently demands the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation from its territory, asserting that all measures taken by Israel are null and void and have no legal effect under international law. Syria also calls on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities and compel Israel to withdraw completely from southern Syria.
