Damascus, July 26 (SANA)The International Commission for Civilian Protection (ICPC) and Syria’s Supreme Fatwa Council have expressed condolences following Saturday’s deadly traffic accident on theDeir Ezzor-Damascus highway.

In a statement received by SANA, the ICPC extended its condolences to the victims’ families, wished the injured a speedy recovery, and commended the efforts of emergency responders, medical personnel and rescue teams involved in the aftermath of the crash.

The organization said road safety is a fundamental pillar of civilian protection and called for continued investment in road infrastructure, safer transport systems, stronger enforcement of traffic regulations, and enhanced emergency response capabilities to help prevent similar tragedies.

In a separate statement, Syria’s Supreme Fatwa Council also offered its condolences to the victims’ families, praying for mercy for those who lost their lives and a swift recovery for the injured.

The ICPC is an international organization established in the Netherlands in 2024 under the principles of independent diplomacy.

According to a preliminary official toll, a collision between two passenger buses on the Deir Ezzor-Damascus highway killed 35 people and injured 30 others, prompting a large-scale emergency response and the mobilization of ambulance teams and hospitals to treat the wounded.
