Axios: Trump directs US military not to launch new strikes on Iran
Washington, July 26 (SANA)U.S. President Donald Trump has instructed the U.S. military not to carry out any new strikes against Iran, the U.S. news website Axios reported on Sunday, saying the move is intended to provide additional time for diplomatic efforts.According to the report, Trump declined several days ago to approve plans for additionalstrikes on Iranand directed the military not to conduct further air raids.Axios said the U.S. military continues to prepare contingency plans in anticipation of a possible return to large-scale combat operations should developments require such action.The report added that Trump’s decision reflects his desire to give diplomacy another opportunity, as well as his assessment that the U.S. strikes carried out so far have achieved their maximum effectiveness unless the administration decides to resume broader military operations.On Saturday, Trump said he had not yet made a decision on launching wider strikes against Iran, indicating that talks remain the administration’s priority in dealing with the issue.
