Damascus, July 25 (SANA)Syria’s perfume industry is positioning itself for renewed growth, with manufacturers seeking to expand production and strengthen their presence in regional and international markets, backed by centuries of expertise and rising investor interest, according to industry specialists.

Fakhr al-Jandali, owner of a Syrian perfume company, said the country has a long tradition of perfume making supported by skilled professionals, expertise in fragrance formulation and a solid base of raw materials. He saidinvestmentis increasing as companies expand production lines and manufacturing capacity.

Mohammad Shafiq Qassar, a fragrance formulation specialist, said Syria remains one of the Arab region’s leading markets for perfume production and distribution but needs greater investment in supporting industries, particularly essential oil and fragrance concentrate production, to reduce reliance on imports and increase local value-added manufacturing.

He added that improving infrastructure, logistics and access to imported raw materials would strengthen supply chains and lower production costs.

Karamallah Mallem, an essential oils specialist, said manufacturers have improved product quality by adopting modern production standards, expanding facilities and opening new branches across the country. He said increased competition has encouraged innovation and greater attention to fragrance longevity and composition to meet demand in domestic and export markets.

Saeed Samir Shaker, an importer of essential oils since 1990, said decades of industrial expertise and greater engagement with international markets have enhanced the quality and competitiveness of Syrian-made perfumes.

The industry traces its roots back centuries, with Damascus historically renowned for producing Damask roses, jasmine and other aromatic plants. Perfumers in the city’s historic Souk al-Attarin blended locally produced oils with ingredients imported from Asia to create fragrances traded across theMediterranean.

Industry experts say Syria’s perfume sector has strong potential for further expansion, driven by experienced manufacturers, growing demand for locally made products and opportunities to develop supporting industries, including essential oil production, packaging and other manufacturing inputs.
