Presidente Abinader entrega moderno Centro de Iniciación Deportiva en el Hogar Escuela Santo Domingo Savio
Santo Domingo.–President Luis Abinaderinaugurated this Saturday a modern School Sports Initiation Center (CIDE) at the Santo Domingo Savio School Home, a work carried out by the National Institute of Physical Education (Inefi) with an investment of RD 38 million, which strengthens school sports and creates new opportunities for children and young people to develop their sporting talent.
During the event, the executive director of Inefi, Alberto Rodríguez, highlighted the historical transformation that Dominican school sports are experiencing, highlighting that schools have become the quarry where the country's future champions are born and developed.
"The school sports initiation centers, president, are where everything is born. It is a laboratory of sport," he expressed, noting that "sports talent is not born only on the big stages, it is born in schools, in neighborhoods, in communities," where children and young people find opportunities to develop their abilities and achieve their dreams.
In this sense, he pointed out that, through the creation and strengthening of School Sports Initiation Centers, new opportunities are being generated for children and young people to discover their talents, receive specialized training and be able to project themselves onto national and international stages.
Rodríguez highlighted that President Luis Abinader has promoted important investments in sports infrastructure, including the renovation of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, the renovation of Parque del Este and the construction of sports roofs in schools and clubs nationwide.
The official explained that the School Sports Initiation Centers are the basis for discovering and developing talents, by allowing students with sporting conditions to receive technical training and be able to project themselves towards high-performance competitions.
Likewise, he reported that more than 40 athletes emerging from the School Sports Games organized during the current administration were preselected to participate in the Central American and Caribbean Games, of which six are already part of national teams and two are projected to obtain medals.
New facilities to train future champions
The new Sports Initiation Center has a modern soccer field, the first 60-meter athletics track built within a public educational center in the country, a renovated baseball stadium and a renovated sports center.
Rodríguez indicated that this work represents an investment in the hope and future of Dominican children, while urging the educational community of the Santo Domingo Savio School Home to take care of and preserve these facilities for the benefit of future generations.
He also highlighted the strengthening of the National Network of School Sports Initiation Centers, with presence in provinces such as Monte Plata, Espaillat, San Pedro de Macorís, La Vega and San Juan, where work is being done to identify new talents. As a reference to the impact of these programs, he mentioned the world champion Marileidy Paulino, whose sports training process demonstrates the importance of promoting opportunities from schools and communities.
Santo Domingo Savio School Home celebrates a new stage
The welcoming words were given by Father Ramón Erinel Quezada, director of the Santo Domingo Savio School Home, who thanked President Luis Abinader for making an aspiration of the entire educational community come true and highlighted that this institution, founded in 1955, has been a space of formation and transformation for thousands of children for more than seven decades.
Quezada highlighted that the educational center, in addition to training in values and knowledge, has been the birthplace of important athletes and a reference for Dominican soccer, so the opening of the new Sports Initiation Center constitutes an opportunity to strengthen the comprehensive development of the students.

On behalf of the student body, Cristian Alonzo Delgado expressed his gratitude to President Abinader for the delivery of the work, considering that it will allow children and young people to develop their talents, pursue their dreams and have decent spaces for their growth.
The blessing and invocation of the event was carried out by José Pastor Ramírez, general inspector of the Salesians of the Antilles, who asked that the new center be a place where the dreams, talents and values of the students flourish.
Ramírez valued the Government's support for strengthening education and sports as tools of social transformation and highlighted that investing in the comprehensive training of new generations contributes to building a better future for the Dominican Republic.

El funcionario explicó que los Centros de Iniciación Deportiva Escolar son la base para descubrir y desarrollar talentos, al permitir que estudiantes con condiciones deportivas recibanformación técnicay puedan proyectarse haciacompetencias de alto rendimiento. Asimismo, informó quemás de 40 atletassurgidos de losJuegos Deportivos Escolaresorganizados durante la actual gestión fueron preseleccionados para participar en losJuegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe, de los cuales seis ya integran equipos nacionales y dos tienen proyección de obtener medallas.
