EU-Syria talks to support agricultural sector and rural women empowerment
Damascus, July .25 (SANA)Syria and theEuropean Uniondiscussed ways to enhance cooperation in supporting the agricultural sector, empowering rural women, and expanding development initiatives aimed at boosting agricultural production and food security.
The discussions took place during a meeting between Head ofDamascusand its Countryside Chamber of Agriculture Mohammad Jannan and theEU Delegation’s Agricultureand Rural Development Program Manager to Syria, Ker An Loon, at the chamber’s headquarters in Damascus on Friday.
Jannan highlighted the importance of reviving Syria’sagriculturalsector after years of challenges that affected its production capacity, stressing that Syrian agricultural products enjoy high quality and competitiveness, while calling for greater support for development projects and partnerships with local and international entities.
For his part, Loon saidSyriahas diverse agricultural potential, particularly in the production of vegetables, fruits and ornamental plants, emphasizing the importance of supporting rural women and strengthening their role in production to promote sustainable development and the stability of rural communities.
The meeting comes as part of efforts to expand cooperation between Syrian agricultural institutions and international partners to support the sector’s recovery. The EU’s agriculture and rural development program focuses on improving production efficiency, supporting value chains, empowering rural women and youth, and strengthening communities’ resilience to economic and climate challenges.
