IDAAN despliega en Arraiján el mayor operativo ‘Panamá Sin Fugas’ para recuperar la red de distribución de agua potable
Within the framework of the objectives of the government of the President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, of guaranteeing the population water for human consumption, the Minister of the Presidency, Juan Carlos Orillac, and the director of the Institute of National Aqueducts and Sewers (IDAAN), Antonio Tercero González, began today the Panamá Sin Fuga program in the district of Arraiján, province of Panamá Oeste, to recover the supply network and stop the loss of the vital liquid due to burst pipes.
The Panamá Sin Fuga program, which began successfully in the province of Panama, arrives in Arraiján to serve more than 150 previously identified and georeferenced points. Currently, in Western Panama, an average of 147 million gallons of water are produced per day; However, about 50% is lost due to pipe leaks and other system anomalies. The recovery of this flow will allow stabilizing the pressure and progressively strengthening the supply in different sectors of the district.
"This program seeks to recover water that is lost every day due to leaks and that the Panamanian population needs so much. This is a crucial issue that was not addressed in the past and that will greatly help areas where the resource does not reach or the pressure is very low. It is part of the modernization process to bring water to Panamanians, one of the most important demands that President Mulino is addressing as a priority," said Minister Orillac upon arriving at Loma Cobá, in Arraiján, where the operation was launched.
At this point, on the side of the Pan-American highway, heavy equipment and IDAAN crews began repair work on a broken pipe that affects the supply in the surrounding communities. The personnel available for the more than 150 planned interventions come from the capital and have been reinforced with units transferred from the interior of the country.
Tercero González explained that more than 140 officials distributed in 9 teams have been deployed, with the support of the Metropolitan Management. The actions are carried out simultaneously in Arraiján Cabecera, Cerro Silvestre, Vista Alegre, Juan Demóstenes Arosemena and Burunga, where more than 150 high-priority leaks will be intervened to reduce losses, strengthen distribution and optimize the use of the resource.
"We will move as a team where there are the greatest number of leaks, with the support of technical personnel who carry out titanic work. We move the teams during the early hours of the morning so as not to affect traffic and we have been organizing the necessary supplies to address these incidents for several days," said the director of IDAAN, who was accompanied by the president of the National Assembly, Shirley Castañeda.

El programa Panamá Sin Fuga, que comenzó con éxito en la provincia de Panamá, llega a Arraiján para atender más de 150 puntos previamente identificados y georreferenciados. Actualmente, en Panamá Oeste se producen en promedio 147 millones de galones de agua por día; sin embargo, cerca del 50 % se pierde debido a fugas en las tuberías y otras anomalías del sistema. La recuperación de este caudal permitirá estabilizar la presión y fortalecer progresivamente el abastecimiento en distintos sectores del distrito. “Este programa busca recuperar agua que se pierde todos los días a causa de las fugas y que la población panameña tanto necesita. Este es un tema crucial que no se atendió en el pasado y que ayudará enormemente a las áreas donde no llega el recurso o la presión es muy baja. Es parte del proceso de modernización para llevarle agua a los panameños, una de las demandas más importantes que el presidente Mulino está atendiendo como prioridad”, expresó el ministro Orillac al llegar a Loma Cobá, en Arraiján, donde se lanzó el operativo. En este punto, a un costado de la carretera Panamericana, equipo pesado y cuadrillas del IDAAN iniciaron trabajos de reparación de una tubería rota que afecta el suministro en las comunidades aledañas. El personal dispuesto para las más de 150 intervenciones previstas proviene de la capital y se ha reforzado con unidades trasladadas desde el interior del país. Tercero González detalló que se han desplegado más de 140 funcionarios distribuidos en 9 cuadrillas, con el apoyo de la Gerencia Metropolitana. Las acciones se desarrollan de manera simultánea en Arraiján Cabecera, Cerro Silvestre, Vista Alegre, Juan Demóstenes Arosemena y Burunga, donde se intervendrán más de 150 fugas de alta prioridad para reducir las pérdidas, fortalecer la distribución y optimizar el aprovechamiento del recurso. “Nos desplazaremos en equipo donde haya mayor cantidad de fugas, con el respaldo de un personal técnico que realiza una labor titánica. Movemos los equipos durante la madrugada para no afectar el tránsito y llevamos varios días organizando los insumos necesarios para atender estas incidencias”, acotó el director del IDAAN, quien estuvo acompañado por la presidenta de la Asamblea Nacional, Shirley Castañeda.
