Presidente da República promete legalizar moçambicanos na Tanzânia e reforçar cooperação
MAPUTO, MAY 9, 2025– The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, guaranteed this Thursday, in Dar es Salaam, that the Mozambican Government will work to legalize the documentary status of Mozambican citizens residing in Tanzania, ensuring the strengthening of relations between the two neighboring countries.
The statement was made during a meeting with the Mozambican community, as part of the state visit he is carrying out to Tanzania, at the invitation of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
During the meeting, the Head of State listened carefully to the concerns raised by the community and stated: “That is why we came to work here in Tanzania, to listen to the concerns of Mozambicans who live and work in Tanzania”.
The statesman explained that, throughout the day, he held talks with the Tanzanian President, in which they addressed crucial issues for strengthening economic and social relations. "We talked about many issues. One of the issues is really how to increase trade between Tanzania and Mozambique, how to increase business between brothers in Tanzania and Mozambique", he stated.
Among the initiatives mentioned is the rehabilitation of road infrastructure, with emphasis on work on the road that runs from the district of Palma, in the province of Cabo Delgado, to the Namoto border, which will facilitate commercial exchanges. "On our side we also have responsibilities. Now we are improving the road on our side, on the Negomano border, to connect to the Unity Bridge, in Rovuma", he added.
President Chapo also revealed plans to expand air connectivity between the two countries, through the Tanzanian national carrier. “We also talked about the need to make the air connection through the Tanzanian airline from here to Pemba, from here to Nampula, from here to Beira, from here to Maputo”, he said.
Another highlighted topic was the need for better organization in the exploration of shared natural resources. “Mozambique has a lot of gold […], which is being explored anyway, so that we can organize ourselves and better explore our resources” he pointed out, reinforcing the call for cooperation in the gas and other minerals sector.
Regarding the documentation of Mozambicans in Tanzania, the President of the Republic committed to a more comprehensive action, stating that the Government will organize the sending of a registration commission to issue Personal Cards, Identity Cards and Passports, thus allowing citizens to work legally in the host country. He also recognized that the current service model has been insufficient to cover all regions where Mozambicans reside.
The government official indicated that the objective is to allow Mozambicans in the diaspora to live and work legally, especially young people born in Tanzania who do not have documents. “So, we will come to work here, provide documents, legalize their situation here so that we can live legally here in Tanzania”, he promised. At the end, the President of the Republic conveyed a message of recognition from his Tanzanian counterpart to the stance of the Mozambican community. "She said that there are not many problems with Mozambicans, both on the continent and in Zanzibar. That's why we will continue to live like brothers, because Mozambicans and Tanzanians, deep down, are brothers," he concluded.

MAPUTO, 09 DE MAIO DE 2025– O Presidente da República, Daniel Chapo, garantiu esta quinta-feira, em Dar es Salaam, que o Governo moçambicano vai trabalhar para legalizar a situação documental dos cidadãos moçambicanos residentes na Tanzânia, assegurando o reforço das relações entre os dois países vizinhos. A declaração foi feita durante um encontro com a comunidade moçambicana, no âmbito da visita de Estado que realiza à Tanzânia, a convite da Presidente Samia Suluhu Hassan. Durante o encontro, o Chefe do Estado ouviu atentamente as preocupações apresentadas pela comunidade e afirmou:“É por isso que viemos trabalhar aqui na Tanzânia, para ouvir as preocupações dos moçambicanos que vivem e trabalham na Tanzânia”. O estadista explicou que, ao longo do dia, manteve conversações com a Presidente tanzaniana, nas quais abordaram temas cruciais para o fortalecimento das relações económicas e sociais.“Falámos de muitos assuntos. Um dos assuntos é realmente como aumentar o comércio entre Tanzânia e Moçambique, como aumentar o negócio entre irmãos na Tanzânia e Moçambique”,afirmou. Entre as iniciativas mencionadas está a reabilitação de infra-estruturas rodoviárias, com destaque para as obras na estrada que parte do distrito de Palma, na província de Cabo Delgado, até à fronteira de Namoto, que irá facilitar as trocas comerciais.“Do nosso lado também temos responsabilidades. Agora estamos a melhorar a estrada do nosso lado, na fronteira de Negomano, para ligar à Ponte da Unidade, no Rovuma”,acrescentou. O Presidente Chapo revelou ainda planos para expandir a conectividade aérea entre os dois países, por via da transportadora nacional tanzaniana.“Também falámos sobre a necessidade de fazer a ligação aérea através da linha aérea da Tanzânia daqui para Pemba, daqui para Nampula, daqui para Beira, daqui para Maputo”,referiu. Outro tema em destaque foi a necessidade de melhor organização na exploração dos recursos naturais partilhados.“Moçambique tem muito ouro […], que está a ser explorado de qualquer maneira, para nos organizarmos e explorarmos melhor os nossos recursos”apontou, reforçando o apelo à cooperação no sector do gás e outros minerais. Relativamente à documentação dos moçambicanos na Tanzânia, o Presidente da República comprometeu-se com uma acção mais abrangente, referindo que o Governo irá organizar o envio de uma comissão de registo para emitir Cédulas Pessoais, Bilhetes de Identidade e Passaportes, permitindo assim que os cidadãos possam trabalhar legalmente no país acolhedor. Reconheceu, ainda, que o actual modelo de atendimento tem sido insuficiente para cobrir todas as regiões onde residem moçambicanos. O governante indicou que o objectivo é permitir que os moçambicanos na diáspora possam viver e trabalhar legalmente, sobretudo os jovens nascidos na Tanzânia que não possuem documentos.“Então, havemos de vir trabalhar aqui, dar documentos, legalizar a situação deles aqui para vivermos legalmente aqui na Tanzânia”,prometeu. No fim, o Presidente da República transmitiu uma mensagem de reconhecimento por parte da homóloga tanzaniana à postura da comunidade moçambicana.“Ela disse que não há muitos problemas com os moçambicanos, tanto no continente, como em Zanzibar. Por isso vamos continuar a viver assim como irmãos, porque moçambicanos e tanzanianos, no fundo, somos irmãos,”concluiu.
