Presidente Chapo: visita à Tanzânia foi bastante positiva
MAPUTO, MAY 9, 2025– The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, stated today, in Dar es Salaam, that the three-day State visit to the United Republic of Tanzania was “quite important” and generated “very positive results”, with emphasis on the creation of a Joint Economic Commission to be supervised at the highest level by the two Heads of State. The mission, which took place at the invitation of the Tanzanian President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, reinforced the historical and cooperative ties between the two countries, opening new fronts of collaboration in the economic, social, energy, tourism, security and transport domains.
“We have just finished our three-day visit to our neighboring country, which is Tanzania”, said the statesman, at the balance sheet press conference. Recalling that he had promised to make Tanzania the first destination of his presidential diplomacy, the Mozambican President stressed that the choice “is a reflection of the historical and brotherly ties” between the two peoples.
During the visit, Mozambique and Tanzania exchanged experiences and views on priority areas of cooperation. “We exchanged various points of view in the areas of cooperation, not only political, but economic, social, and there were also several agreements that were signed”, announced the Head of State, noting that there was also a review of previously signed legal instruments to assess their level of compliance.
The government official visited strategic infrastructures, including a new railway station under construction and the island of Zanzibar, where he highlighted the potential for tourism and deep-sea fishing. “The visit we made today was quite important […] Zanzibar has around 600 hotels, they receive flights from almost every country in the world”, he stated, adding that he also met a tuna fishing authority that exports to demanding markets such as China and Japan, referring to the Deep Sea Fisheries authority.
Another highlight of the agenda was the dialogue with the President of Zanzibar, Hussein Ali Mwinyi, who reinforced the interest in cooperation in the areas of tourism, blue economy, fishing, training and technology transfer. President Chapo also highlighted the value of Mozambican experience in the natural gas sector. “The experience in Mozambique is very important […] They will also send their staff to Mozambique, so they can learn from us”, he revealed.
In economic matters, the Mozambican Chief Executive announced the future sending of a Mozambican government team to Tanzania to operationalize decisions, including the joint use of special economic zones, the activation of the Mtwara Corridor and the creation of a One-Stop Border Post. “There is a need to operationalize several projects”, he stressed.
Security was also addressed, with an emphasis on strengthening border surveillance and combating terrorism, especially in Cabo Delgado and the Niassa Reserve. “Tanzania is available to support Mozambique in the fight against terrorism”, guaranteed the President of the Republic, also highlighting the signing of an agreement between the National Petroleum Institute (INP) and the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation.
The areas of transport, logistics, agriculture, energy and digital transformation also received attention. One of the agreements involves the installation of fiber optic cables connecting the two countries via Cabo Delgado. There were also exchanges over the cashew nut trade and exploration of resources such as gold. “The assessment we are making during this visit to Tanzania is a very positive assessment and we are now going to take action”, concluded President Daniel Chapo, highlighting that the new Joint Economic Commission will be “an important instrument for results-oriented cooperation” and will ensure the follow-up of the signed agreements.

Recordando que havia prometido fazer da Tanzânia o primeiro destino da sua diplomacia presidencial, o Presidente moçambicano sublinhou que a escolha “é o reflexo dos laços históricos e de irmandade” entre os dois povos. Durante a visita, Moçambique e Tanzânia trocaram experiências e pontos de vista sobre áreas prioritárias de cooperação. “Trocámos vários pontos de vista nas áreas de cooperação, não só política, mas económica, social, e também houve vários acordos que foram assinados”, anunciou o Chefe do Estado, referindo que houve igualmente uma revisão dos instrumentos jurídicos previamente assinados para avaliar o seu nível de cumprimento. O governante visitou infra-estruturas estratégicas, incluindo uma nova estação ferroviária em construção e a ilha de Zanzibar, onde destacou as potencialidades do turismo e da pesca em águas profundas. “Foi bastante importante a visita que fizemos hoje […]. Outro ponto alto da agenda foi o diálogo com o Presidente de Zanzibar, Hussein Ali Mwinyi, que reforçou o interesse em cooperação nas áreas de turismo, economia azul, pesca, formação e transferência de tecnologias. O Presidente Chapo destacou ainda o valor da experiência moçambicana no sector do gás natural. “A experiência de Moçambique é bastante importante […]. Vão mandar também os seus quadros para o Moçambique, para poderem aprender connosco”, revelou. Em matéria económica, o Chefe do Executivo moçambicano anunciou o futuro envio de uma equipa governamental moçambicana à Tanzânia para operacionalizar decisões, incluindo o aproveitamento conjunto das zonas económicas especiais, a activação do Corredor de Mtwara e a criação de um Posto Fronteiriço de Paragem Única. “Há necessidade de operacionalização de vários projectos”, frisou. A segurança foi igualmente abordada, com ênfase no reforço da vigilância fronteiriça e combate ao terrorismo, especialmente em Cabo Delgado e na Reserva do Niassa. “Tanzânia está disponível a apoiar Moçambique no combate ao terrorismo”, garantiu o Presidente da República, destacando ainda a assinatura de um acordo entre o Instituto Nacional de Petróleo (INP) e a Tanzânia Petroleum Development Corporation. As áreas de transporte, logística, agricultura, energia e transformação digital também mereceram atenção. Um dos entendimentos passa pela instalação de cabos de fibra óptica ligando os dois países via Cabo Delgado. Houve igualmente trocas sobre o comércio de castanha de caju e exploração de recursos como o ouro. “O balanço que estamos a fazer nesta visita que efectuámos à Tanzânia é um balanço bastante positivo e vamos partir agora para a acção”, concluiu o Presidente Daniel Chapo, destacando que a nova Comissão económica Conjunta será “um instrumento importante para uma cooperação virada para resultados” e assegurará o seguimento dos acordos assinados.
