Prime MinisterMilojko Spajićbegan his official visit to the Czech Republic with a meeting with representatives of the Czech Parliament, led byPetr SokolandJan Schiller, Chairmen of the Committees on European Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies.

The Czech representatives reaffirmed their unequivocal political support for Montenegro’s European aspirations and for the successful completion of its EU accession process at the earliest possible date.

The Czech Republic is, in a way, a relatively new EU Member State, so we understand the efforts you are making in implementing reforms. I would also like to stress that there is broad political consensus in the Czech Republic in support of Montenegro’s European integration and your efforts to join the European Union as soon as possible, said Petr Sokol, Chairman of the Committee on European Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies.

You have our full support without any doubt. Our countries enjoy excellent relations, and we are brought even closer by the growing number of Czech citizens choosing Montenegro as their holiday destination, he added.

Prime Minister Spajić thanked the Czech Republic for its continued support on Montenegro’s European path and highlighted the strong partnership between the two countries within NATO.

The Czech Republic is a very important partner for Montenegro, and we highly appreciate the strong support for achieving our strategic goal of becoming a member of the European Union. We look forward to even closer cooperation in the future, when we will also be partners within the EU, the Prime Minister said.

Denis Doksanský, Member of Parliament from the ANO party in the Chamber of Deputies, stressed that the Czech Republic wants to see Montenegro join the European Union as soon as possible.

For our country, Montenegro’s accession is a priority, and I say this on behalf of the governing coalition. We advocate Montenegro’s swift accession at every level, both nationally and internationally, Doksanský said, noting Montenegro’s significant progress in the rule of law while pointing to potential migration routes through Montenegro as a future challenge.

Prime Minister Spajić underlined that the Government is preparing responsibly to safeguard the future external borders of the European Union.

We want to work together on this challenge to find the best possible response to an issue affecting the entire European Union. We are continuously strengthening our security sector to ensure that our borders – which will also become the EU’s external borders – remain secure, the Prime Minister said.

The meeting also addressed the challenges Montenegro faces in the remainder of the year, including foreign malign influence aimed at undermining the country’s European path. It was concluded that the strong political support for Montenegro’s EU integration provides a solid guarantee for the successful completion of the accession negotiations.
