A meeting was held with representatives of the Customs Committee, led by Deputy Chairman N. Musamuhamedov, and the IMF mission, led by Mohammad Ehteshamul Hoque, an expert in the IMF’s Fiscal Affairs Department.
During the talks, the parties discussed the large-scale reforms implemented in Uzbekistan’s customs sector in recent years. Particular attention was given to improving the risk management system, developing customs auditing, accelerating digitalization, strengthening information and communications infrastructure and cybersecurity, and advancing the Customs Committee’s medium- and long-term strategies in line with international standards.
As part of the technical mission’s activities, practical meetings, presentations, and expert discussions are planned, with participation by Customs Committee specialists responsible for risk management, customs auditing, information and communications technologies and cybersecurity, strategic planning, and the simplification of customs procedures.
The mission will run until July 31. After it concludes, a set of practical recommendations and proposals is expected to be developed to enhance the customs system.
