Syria, UK discuss education development and recovery needs

Damascus, July 23 (SANA)Syrian Minister of EducationMohammad Abdulrahman TurkoandUK Special Representative for Syria Barrie Peachdiscussed on Thursday ways to improve the country’s education sector and support recovery efforts.

During a meeting at the Education Ministry, the two sides reviewed priorities for the recovery phase and discussed a shared vision for developingeducation in Syria.

Peach praised the ministry’s efforts, particularly in accommodating large numbers of students returning from abroad andrehabilitating damaged schools. He said theUKwas ready to provide training programs to support Syrian education staff and help improve English language skills.

The ministry had rehabilitated 1,285 schools since the beginning of 2026, while 2,017 schools underwent comprehensive restoration works last year and returned to educational service.

The rehabilitation efforts are part of a national plan to restore the education sector acrossSyrian provinces,strengthen educational stability and expand schools’ capacity to accommodate students.
