New York, July 23 (SANA)TheU.N. Independent International Commission of Inquiryon Syria said on Thursday it looks forward to cooperating with Syria’s newly formedPeople’s Assembly,describing its establishment and inaugural session as an important milestone in the country’s current transition.

In a post on X, the commission said it hopes to work with the assembly as it seeks to meet the aspirations of the Syrian people and pass key legislation to strengthen human rights, including atransitional justice law.

Syria’s People’s Assembly held its first session after the liberation on July 12, attended by PresidentAhmad al-Sharaa,and a number of ministers.

TheU.N. Human Rights Councilestablished the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria on Aug. 22, 2011, to investigate human rights violations committed during the rule of thedeposed regimethroughout the years of the Syrian revolution.
