New York, July 23 (SANA)UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi discussed the latest regional developments and their implications for regional and global security, stability and economic conditions.

According to a GCC statement issued Thursday, Albudaiwi told Guterres during their meeting on the sidelines of a UN Security Council high-level open debate in New York that Iran’s attacks on GCC member states and its systematic targeting of infrastructure demonstrate “its desire to undermine security and stability and obstruct peace efforts.”

He stressed the need to halt the attacks and deter Iran from continuing “aggressive policies” in order to preserve international peace and security.

Guterres reaffirmed the United Nations’ solidarity with GCC member states following the Iranian attacks and stressed the importance of ending the assaults, which he said threaten regional security and stability.

The two officials also exchanged views on a number of regional issues and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the GCC and the United Nations.

On Wednesday, Albudaiwi said Iran’s continued attacks on GCC states, along with threats by the Iran-backed Houthi militia to close the Bab al-Mandab Strait, require immediate accountability and a firm international response to uphold international law, protect energy infrastructure and ensure freedom of navigation.F.J./ABD
