The Tánaiste and Minister for Finance, Simon Harris TD has today (Wednesday) announced the appointment of Eamonn Sinnott to the Central Bank Commission, following a decision taken at Cabinet.

Speaking today Tánaiste Simon Harris said:

“I am pleased to announce the appointment of Eamonn Sinnott to the Central Bank Commission. This appointment brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the Central Bank Commission, ensuring that it is well positioned to carry out its important functions. I wish Eamonn every success in this role.”

This appointment will come into effect from23 July 2026.

The Central Bank Commission is responsible for management and control of the affairs and activities of the Central Bank, ensuring that the Central Bank’s financial regulation and central banking functions are coordinated and integrated, and ensuring that the statutory powers and functions conferred on the Central Bank are properly exercised and discharged.

In accordance with section 24B of the Central Bank Act 1942 (as amended), this appointment is for a five-year term. This appointment brings the number of Ministerial appointed members of the Commission to six and ensures an appropriate range of skills and expertise on the Commission.

The Tánaiste and Minister for Finance, Simon Harris, sought agreement from Government to appoint Eamonn Sinnott, by availing of the derogation in the process of making appointments to State Boards.

With the addition of this Ministerial appointment, the Commission continues to meet the Government’s target of a minimum of 40% representation of each gender and maintains an appropriate balance of skills and experience, in line with theCode of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies.

NOTES TO EDITORS- Biography of Eamonn Sinnott

Eamonn Sinnottwas the Vice President Technology and Manufacturing Group at Intel Corporation and the General Manager of Intel in Ireland.

Joining Intel in 1991, he has held a variety of management positions in Ireland and in the USA prior to his appointment as General Manager of Intel Ireland in 2010 and where he played a key role in securing the record $7 billion upgrade to the Leixlip campus. This has enabled the production of Intel’s leading edge process technologies and products from Ireland.

Mr. Sinnott is passionate about the intersection between technology and creativity and played a leadership role in supporting innovative initiatives such as the Ireland’s Edge conference aimed at encouraging more integrated policy across arts, science, technology and learning.

Mr. Sinnott is a former President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ireland and is a Fellow of the Irish Academy of Engineering and currently chairs the Mid-East Action Plan for Jobs and is a member of IBEC’s Technology Ireland board. Eamonn is also a member of the Institute of Directors in Ireland.

Mr. Sinnott received an MBA from University College Dublin in 2000 and a Bachelor of Science from Trinity College in 1986. In 2015, Eamonn was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy from Dublin Institute of Technology.
