Presidente Abinader: “República Dominicana está lista para celebrar los mejores Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe de su historia”
Santo Domingo.-President Luis Abinadera confirmed this Wednesday that the Dominican Republic is prepared to celebrate the best Central American and Caribbean Games in its history, highlighting the transformation of the sports infrastructure, the investment of around RD 9,000 million made by the Government and the joint work of the institutions responsible for organizing the event, during a supervision tour of the Parque del Este facilities.
During an interview given to the program El Gobierno de la Mañana, after touring the Parque del Este sports facilities, the president stated that the country has fulfilled its commitment to deliver modern sports venues in optimal conditions.
"I think we are going to have top-level games in infrastructure and organization. They will be one of the best organized games and will have one of the best-condition infrastructure of any edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games," he said.
President Abinader highlighted that the works carried out in the Parque del Este, the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, the Virgilio Travieso Soto Sports Palace, the Aquatic Center and the Volleyball Pavilion reflect continuous planning between the Ministry of Housing and Buildings (Mived) and the Ministry of Sports, which allowed the work to be completed without altering the established programming.
The head of state praised the work carried out by the former Minister of Housing and Buildings, Carlos Bonilla, and by his successor, Víctor “Ito” Bisonó, noting that both gave continuity to the same work plan, guaranteeing the successful completion of the works.
Likewise, he recognized the work of the Games Organizing Commission, chaired by José Monegro; of the Dominican Olympic Committee, headed by Luisín Mejía; of the Ministry of Sports and all the sectors that have worked in a coordinated manner to organize the event.
They will guarantee the preservation of the facilities
The president reported that the Government will implement a permanent volunteer model to ensure the maintenance and conservation of the sports complexes once the Games conclude.
He explained that the Ministry of Sports will have the support of volunteer committees in each facility, in charge of supervising the care of the infrastructure and preserving the investments made by the State.
"I ask Kelvin that he has to have observers so that they can continue to care for, protect and maintain each detail in the same conditions in which they have been found and preserve the quality of each of these constructions," he indicated.
The president added that the volunteer strategy is part of the best international practices implemented by his management since the beginning of the Government and recalled that this model already works successfully in hospitals, cultural institutions and other public agencies, so it will now be strengthened in the sports area to guarantee the sustainability of the facilities for the benefit of future generations.
The governor recalled that the Government has invested around RD 9,000 million in sports infrastructure for the Games, of which around RD 2,000 million correspond to the works carried out in the Parque del Este.
Dominican Republic, ready to welcome the world
The head of state stated that the country has the necessary experience to receive thousands of international visitors, thanks to the development achieved by the tourism sector.
In that sense, he assured that this organizational capacity will be transferred to the sports field to offer a quality experience to the delegations and visitors who will participate in the Games.
"The Dominican Republic receives about 12 million visitors every year. We have experience of receiving many visitors, visitors who repeat because of the smile, the warmth and the service that the Dominicans provide, and we are also going to demonstrate that during these Games," he said.
Tour of the facilities
The tour began at the archery field, where the president was received by José Miguel Robiou, president of the Dominican Archery Federation, along with members of the board and athletes of that discipline, who offered an explanation about the conditions and capabilities of the facility.
Subsequently, the delegation moved to the gymnastics pavilion, where representatives of that discipline presented the areas for training and competition, as well as the adaptations made to receive national and international athletes.
The journey continued in the tennis pavilion, where the person in charge of the facility, Gary Hernández, along with a group of athletes, explained the operation, the capacity and the improvements carried out in that sports arena.
The tour concluded in the weightlifting pavilion, where the authorities learned the details about the equipment, the technical conditions and the spaces intended for the development of the competitions.
The supervision is part of the permanent monitoring carried out by the Government to guarantee that all sports infrastructures are ready before the start of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, which will begin on July 24 and conclude on August 8, 2026.
The contest will bring together thousands of athletes from both Central America and the Caribbean, and Parque del Este will be one of the main venues for the event, hosting 13 sports disciplines, including gymnastics, weightlifting, archery, handball and tennis.
With these inspections, the Government reaffirms its commitment to deliver modern and functional facilities that not only guarantee the success of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, but also strengthen the country's sports legacy, promoting the development of high-performance sports and leaving quality infrastructure for future generations.
During the visit, the president was accompanied by the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kelvin Cruz, and of Housing and Buildings, Víctor “Ito” Bisonó; the president of the Organizing Committee of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 and director of the newspaper El Día, José Monegro; the president of Centro Caribe Sports and member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Luisín Mejía; the mayor of Santo Domingo Este, Dio Astacio, as well as several councilors of the municipality.

En ese sentido, aseguró que esa capacidad organizativa será trasladada al ámbito deportivo para ofrecer unaexperiencia de calidad a las delegaciones y visitantesque participarán en los Juegos. "República Dominicana recibe cada año cerca de 12 millones de visitantes. Tenemos experiencia de recibir muchos visitantes, visitantes que repiten por la sonrisa, por la calidez y por el servicio que brindan los dominicanos, y eso también lo vamos a demostrar durante estos Juegos",manifestó. Recorrido por las instalaciones El recorrido inició en elcampo de tiro con arco, donde el presidente fue recibido porJosé Miguel Robiou,presidente de la Federación Dominicana de Tiro con Arco, junto a miembros de la directiva y atletas de esa disciplina, quienes ofrecieron una explicación sobre las condiciones y capacidades de la instalación. Posteriormente, la comitiva se trasladó alpabellón de gimnasia, donde representantes de esa disciplina presentaron las áreas destinadas al entrenamiento y la competencia, así como las adecuaciones realizadas para recibir a los atletas nacionales e internacionales. El trayecto continuó en elpabellón de tenis,donde el encargado de la instalación,Gary Hernández, junto a un grupo de atletas, explicó el funcionamiento, la capacidad y las mejoras ejecutadas en ese escenario deportivo. El recorrido concluyó en elpabellón de halterofilia, donde las autoridades conocieron los detalles sobre el equipamiento, las condiciones técnicas y los espacios destinados al desarrollo de las competencias. La supervisión forma parte delseguimiento permanente que realiza el Gobiernopara garantizar que todas las infraestructuras deportivas estén listas antes del inicio de los XXV Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe Santo Domingo 2026, que iniciarán el 24 de julio y concluirán el 8 de agosto de 2026. El certamen reunirá amiles de atletas tanto de Centroamérica como del Caribey el Parque del Este seráuna de las principales sedesdel evento al albergar13 disciplinas deportivas, entre ellas gimnasia, halterofilia, tiro con arco, balonmano y tenis.
