Damascus, July 22 (SANA)TheFourth Criminal Courtin Damascus on Wednesday launched the thirdtrialof defendant Wasim Al‑Assad, who is accused of multiple crimes against the Syrian people during the era of the deposed regime.

Representatives of national and international human rights organizations attended the hearing.

The hearing was presided over by Judge Fakhr Al‑Din Al‑Aryan to listen to the testimonies of public‑right witnesses.

The court held its second session on July 15 in a closed setting, dedicated to hearing the statements of public‑right witnesses, who provided their testimonies before the court panel in the presence of the defendant, in accordance with legal procedures.

The first session of the trial was held on June 24, during which Wasim Al‑Assad faced several charges, most notably managing and forming irregular armed groups.

As part of thetransitional justice process, the Syrian judiciary continues to prosecute individuals accused ofwar crimesand crimes against humanity committed during the era of the deposed regime, with the aim of uncovering the truth, ensuring justice for victims, and holding perpetrators accountable in accordance with judicial procedures.
