Damascus, July 22 (SANA)–Syria and Bahrainhave signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen bilateral cooperation indisaster risk reductionand civil protection.

The agreement was signed in Damascus on Tuesday bySyrian Minister of Emergency and Disaster ManagementRaed al-Saleh andBahraini Interior MinisterGeneral Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa.

The memorandum aims to leverage the expertise and capabilities of both sides, particularly Bahrain’s experience, to support the development ofSyria’s national capacitiesin emergency preparedness and disaster response.

The agreement covers cooperation in training and capacity building for Syrian emergency management personnel, risk assessment and civil protection, as well as providing technical and advisory support to develop national emergency plans and disaster risk reduction strategies. It also includes strengthening civil and community protection systems and supporting post-disaster recovery efforts.

Emergency and Disaster Management MinisterRaed al-Salehsaid the memorandum will strengthen bilateral cooperation in emergency management, to enhance disaster risk reduction through expertise-sharing, capacity building and stronger civil protection systems, underscoring the importance of regional partnerships in improving disaster preparedness.

The ministry is expanding cooperation with regional and international partners to strengthenSyria’s emergencymanagement system by improving disaster preparedness, response and recovery.
