Damascus, July 21 (SANA)Syrian Minister of Social Affairs and LaborHind Kabawatmet on Tuesday with the UK’s Chargé d’Affaires and Acting Special Representative to Syria,Barrie Peach, to discuss expanding cooperation in support of civil society, social cohesion, peacebuilding, and services for people with disabilities.

During the meeting, Kabawat highlighted recent progress in supporting civil society, including an increase in the number of registered non-governmental organizations and ongoing consultations with stakeholders on drafting a new law governing associations.

The two sides also discussed steps toward the return of the British Council to resume its activities in Syria and emphasized the role of the Syrian community and returning nationals in transferring expertise, strengthening resilience, and supporting the country’s recovery.

On July 2, Kabawat met a British delegation comprising members of the UK House of Commons, representatives of Middle East-focused institutions, and the Syrian British Business Council to discuss development, social, and economic initiatives aimed at supporting Syria’s recovery.
