This afternoon (21), I attended a discussion at the Presidential Secretariat to review the progress of projects implemented under the 2026 budgetary allocations for the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources and to discuss budget proposals for 2027. During the meeting, the progress of recurrent and capital expenditure incurred in 2026 by institutions under the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources was reviewed. Discussions also focused on the progress of programmes aimed at increasing domestic fish production and exports, ensuring that the protein requirements of the population are met, and improving the living standards of the fishing community, as well as plans for 2027. I also reviewed the progress of major projects, including the Myliddy Fisheries Harbour Development Project, the construction of the Gandara Fisheries Harbour, the construction of the Rekawa Fisheries Anchorage, and the modernisation and rehabilitation of the Karainagar Boatyard, together with their funding requirements for 2027. In addition, I reviewed the progress of the project being implemented under an allocation of Rs. 189 million to reconstruct fisheries harbours damaged by the Ditwah disaster, restore the livelihoods of fishing communities, and provide boats, fishing nets and equipment to affected fisherfolk.
