Local Administration Ministry, international partners discuss housing recovery in Syria

Damascus, July 21 (SANA)Syria’s Ministry of Local Administration and Environment discussed with representatives of Germany’s KfW Development Bank, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UN-Habitat an integrated approach to support the recovery of the country’s housing sector.

According to the ministry, Deputy Minister for Environmental Affairs Youssef Sharaf and Deputy Minister for Technical Affairs Mohammad Yasser Ghazzal reviewed a joint framework proposed by UNDP andUN-Habitatbased on three interconnected pillars: strengthening the institutional and legislative environment for housing recovery, helping the most affected families repair and restore their homes, and rehabilitating infrastructure and basic services in damaged areas.

The ministry said the approach aims to provide safe housing, support the return of residents, revive local economies and strengthen community stability through partnerships involving government institutions, the private sector and international organizations, contributing to sustainable recovery and more effective reconstruction.

In March, the ministry also discussed with UNDP support for local development, the closure of displacement camps and joint projects aimed at improving living conditions and promoting sustainable local development.F.J./M.Z.
