Damascus, July 21 (SANA)Syrian Transport MinisterYarub Badrand Chinese Ambassador to SyriaShi Hongweidiscussed on Tuesday expanding cooperation in transport, with a focus on infrastructure development, sustainable transport, and technical modernization.

The two sides also reviewed Syria’s potential role in China’sBelt and Road Initiative, with Badr saying recent regional developments, including disruptions affecting the Strait of Hormuz, could increase Syria’s importance as a regional transit and logistics hub.

Badr said the ministry has launched international tenders for two strategic road projects and invited Chinese companies to participate.

The projects include upgrading the highway linking the Jordanian and Turkish borders into an expressway and constructing a new Damascus–Deir Ezzor Road branch.

He said the government-funded projects will support reconstruction and strengthen transport and transit across Syria.

Shi reaffirmedChina‘s readiness to expand cooperation withSyriaand support transport projects that contribute to the sector’s long-term development.
