The President of the Republic, José Antonio Kast, made a first assessment of the impact of the frontal system in the Coquimbo Region after declaring a State of Catastrophe Exception due to public calamity for this region, as well as for the province of Huasco, in the neighboring Atacama Region. The president visited the Ovalle Hospital and later moved to the 21st “Coquimbo” Regiment, located in the city of La Serena. The Head of State was accompanied by the Minister of National Defense, Fernando Muds; the bi-minister of Economy and Mining, Daniel Más; the bi-minister of Public Works, Transport and Telecommunications, Louis de Grange; the Minister of Health, May Chomali and the Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, Ximena Lincolao. They were joined by the Commander in Chief of the Army, General Pedro Varela; the Head of National Defense for the area, General Eugenio Ribba; the regional governor, Cristóbal Juliá; the regional presidential delegate, Victor Pino; the mayor of La Serena, Daniela Norambuena, the mayor of Coquimbo, Ali Manouchehri, police, fire and local authorities. President Kast recalled that once the eventual arrival of this frontal system was known, with an unprecedented impact, measures were adopted. "What has the government done in this time? It has prepared, it has anticipated and it has arranged all the human, material and economic resources available, as far in advance as possible," he said. "Here there are moments to take care of, which is what we are all in and I thank you once again for the disposition, because this is not a difference of political colors. Today the urgency, the emergency, calls us all together and we have a single goal, which is to save lives," he indicated. The Head of State thanked the work of the Armed Forces, police, public officials of municipalities, delegations, governorates and other public bodies.

Se ha preparado, se ha anticipado y ha dispuesto todos los recursos humanos, materiales y económicos disponibles, con la anticipación que se podía”, señaló.“Aquí hay momentos para ocuparse, que es en lo que estamos todos y les agradezco una vez más la disposición, porque esto no es una diferencia de colores políticos.
