Presidente Abinader inaugura los pabellones de voleibol y taekwondo en el Centro Olímpico
Santo Domingo.- Just four days before the start of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, the largest multi-sports event in the region, President Luis Abinaderinaugurated the volleyball and taekwondo pavilions, located at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.
At the event, which took place in the volleyball pavilion, the head of state presented the Dominican flag to the national delegation and, later, witnessed an exhibition match between the teams of the Dominican Republic and Cuba.
Likewise, he toured the other sports facilities within the venue, together with the Minister of Housing and Habitat and Buildings, Víctor “Ito” Bisonó, and the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, continuing the constant monitoring of the work to guarantee the success of these games.
The Minister of Housing and Buildings, Ito Bisonó, stated that “building infrastructure will always be relevant, but building opportunities will always be more important.”
“These are works that are done with people in mind,” he continued, while recalling that 16 pavilions and other sports facilities were intervened prior to the celebration of these XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, while one pavilion was completely built.
“We are proud of this great sports park that we have today,” said the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, who also indicated that RD 70 million were allocated in incentives for Dominican athletes who are medalists.
Prioritizing youth and sports
The investment made for the conditioning of each of these facilities, which amounts to around RD 9,000 million, is another example of how the Government prioritizes youth and sports, ensuring compliance with international standards.
Government authorities participated in the tour; the president of the Organizing Committee, José Monegro, and the president of Centro Caribe Sports, Luis Mejía.
Works delivered by Mivhed in the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center and the Parque del Este
Among the works delivered by the Ministry of Housing and Buildings are: competitive volleyball, training volleyball, the Félix Sánchez court, the fencing pavilion, softball courts A and B, the aquatic center, baseball play 3, as well as the karate, taekwondo and chess pavilions.
Meanwhile, in the Parque del Este, the archery field and the weightlifting, gymnastics, table tennis and handball pavilions were delivered.
In testimonial videos, Dominican athletes showed themselves grateful and happy to receive these spaces, which can continue to be used after the competitions have concluded, serving as an ideal setting for the preparation of new generations of athletes.

Mientras, en elParque del Estese entregó el campo de tiro con arco y los pabellones de halterofilia, gimnasia, tenis de mesa y balonmano.
