The President of the Republic, José Antonio Kast, visited the Coquimbo Region this Monday to inspect on the ground the effects of the frontal system that affected the area and coordinate the response actions after the declaration of State of Exception of Catastrophe due to Public Calamity. Accompanied by the Minister of National Defense, Fernando Barros, and the Minister of Health, May Chomali, the President began his tour at the Ovalle Hospital, one of the health facilities most affected by the intense rainfall recorded in recent days. As a result of the rains, the establishment presented multiple leaks in its roofs, with nearly 80 points affected, impacting critical areas such as the emergency service, surgical wards, the Critical Patient Unit (UPC), the Major Ambulatory Surgery Unit (MACU), pharmacy, sterilization and medical equipment sectors. During the visit, the President learned about the measures implemented to maintain the continuity of health care, including the deployment of the Hospital Modular Army Campaign, coordinated by the ministries of National Defense and Health together with the Army, with the purpose of temporarily replacing the capacity of the five surgical pavilions that were affected. The visit is part of the Government's deployment in the Coquimbo Region to evaluate the damage on the ground, monitor the response of public services and strengthen coordination with regional and provincial authorities in the face of the emergency.
