Ministerie van LVV ontvangt wederom Soil Nutrient Test Kits voor duurzame landbouw
On Friday, July 17, 2026, the acting director of Agricultural Research, Marketing and Processing (LOAV) Mr. Rayen Toekoen from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (LVV) received nine new soil nutrient test kits. The equipment was purchased through the SAC (Sustainable Agriculture in the Caribbean) project which is being implemented by the organization WUSC Caribbean with funding from Global Affairs Canada. Varsha Boejharat, Team Lead/Climate Smart Agriculture Officer of WUSC Caribbean, indicates that this is the final capacity strengthening of the SAC project.
The meters will be deployed at the district offices in various districts to measure soil parameters for farmers. With these kits, the regional offices can measure the following parameters: acidity (pH), electrical conductivity (EC), available nitrogen, phosphate, potassium, humidity and temperature.
With the measurement results, LVV advisors can provide fertilization advice and the quality of the irrigation water can also be monitored. To use the meters correctly and translate this to the farmer, the necessary training has also been provided by the Agrohydrology and Soil Science department.
In 2024, five meters had already been provided to the LVV LOAV directorate through this project. These meters are already used by regional offices in Groningen, Houttuin, Tamanredjo, Nickerie and also in Paramaribo. Due to the high demand for soil measurements in the various resorts, additional meters have now been made available by WUSC Caribbean to further optimize the service.
The use of the soil kits will contribute to sustainable soil management through more efficient use of fertilizers and improved water management with a view to increased productivity.

Op vrijdag 17 juli 2026 heeft de waarnemend directeur Landbouwkundig Onderzoek, Afzet en Verwerking (LOAV) dhr. Rayen Toekoen van het Ministerie van Landbouw, Veeteelt en Visserij (LVV)negen nieuwe soil nutrient test kits in ontvangst genomen. Het apparatuur is aangeschaft via het SAC (Sustainable Agriculture in the Caribbean)- project welke wordt uitgevoerd door de organisatie WUSC Caribbean met de financiering van Global Affairs Canada. Varsha Boejharat, Team Lead/Climate Smart Agriculture Officer van WUSC Caribbean, geeft aan dat hiermee de laatste capaciteitsversterking van het SAC project wordt gerealiseerd. De meters zullen worden ingezet op de ressortkantoren in diverse districten om bodemparameters te meten voor landbouwers. Met deze kits kunnen de ressortkantoren de volgende parameters meten:zuurgraad (pH), elektrische geleidbaarheid (EC), beschikbare stikstof, fosfaat, kalium, vochtigheid en temperatuur. Met de meetresultaten kunnen de voorlichters van LVV bemestingsadviezen verstrekken en eveneens kan de kwaliteit van het irrigatie water gemonitoord worden. Om de meters op de juiste wijze te gebruiken en de vertaalslag te maken naar de landbouwer, zijn ook de nodige trainingen verzorgd door de afdeling Agrohydrologie en Bodemkunde. In 2024 waren via dit project reeds vijf meters verstrekt aan het LVV-directoraat LOAV. Deze meters worden reeds gebruikt door ressortkantoren Groningen, Houttuin, Tamanredjo, Nickerie en ook in Paramaribo. Vanwege de hoge vraag naar bodemmetingen in de diverse ressorten zijn er nu additionele meters beschikbaar gesteld door WUSC Caribbean om de dienstverlening verder te optimaliseren. De inzet van de soil kits zal bijdragen aan duurzaam bodembeheer door efficiënter gebruik van meststoffen en verbeterde waterhuishouding met het oog op verhoogde productiviteit.
