Syria, IMF discuss boosting cooperation to support economic recovery

Damascus, July 20 (SANA)Syrian Finance Minister,Mohammad Yisr Barnieh, met on Monday with a mission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which is visiting Damascus this week, to discussSyria‘s economic and financial developments, priorities for the next phase, and ways to strengthen technical cooperation in support of the country’seconomic recovery.

According to theMinistry of Finance, the meeting focused on developing a medium-term macroeconomic and fiscal framework, improving the quality of economic and financial data, and enhancing coordination among government institutions to support more effective and accurate fiscal policymaking.

The two sides also discussed public debt sustainability, financial sector reform, tax administration, and the ministry’s efforts to develop modern financing instruments, including sovereign sukuk, as well as strengthening the role of financial markets in the coming period.

The meeting underscored the importance of continuing cooperation in institutional development and capacity building to help reinforce economic stability and create a more supportive environment for investment and growth.
