SNS dota al Hospital Cabral y Báez del único densitómetro óseo de la Red Pública en la región Norte
Santiago.– The executive director of the National Health Service (SNS), Dr. Julio Landrón, inaugurated this Friday a new Sonographic Diagnostic Unit at the José María Cabral y Báez Regional University Hospital, equipped with the only bone densitometer in the Public Network in the Northern region and two modern sonographers, to strengthen the center's diagnostic capacity and guarantee more timely and quality care to users.
The new unit was equipped by the SNS with a digital bone densitometer, valued at RD 2,975,978.88, as well as two three-transducer ultrasound machines with a thermal printer and UPS (sonographs), with an investment of RD 1,634,028.58, for a total investment of RD 4,610,007.46.
During the event, Landrón stated that the delivery of this equipment is part of President Luis Abinader's commitment to continue strengthening the Public Health Network so that the most vulnerable population receives care with the same quality standards offered by the private sector.
"This is an example of the commitment and investment that President Luis Abinader is making in the health of Dominicans. The objective is that the most vulnerable population can find all the services they need in the public network, without having to go to another center to undergo studies or procedures," he expressed.
The head of the SNS highlighted that the incorporation of the densitometer represents an important advance for the region, as it is the only equipment of this type available in a Public Network hospital in the north of the country. He explained that it will allow measuring bone mineral density to diagnose diseases such as osteopenia and osteoporosis early, facilitating the indication of timely treatment and better planning of orthopedic procedures, such as the placement of prostheses.
Likewise, he indicated that with the incorporation of the two new sonographers, the Cabral and Báez outpatient area will have three ultrasound machines, reducing waiting times and preventing patients from having to travel to other centers to undergo these studies.
Landrón announced that the SNS will continue to strengthen the Cabral and Báez Hospital and the health centers in its area of influence, including Monte Adentro, Licey al Medio and San José de las Matas, with the purpose of decongesting the main reference hospital in the Northern region.
He also reported that work is being done to expand the hospital infrastructure with new imaging and laboratory areas, in addition to surveys for the creation of a Burn Unit and a Diabetic Foot Unit, as part of the projects to expand the portfolio of specialized services.
Likewise, the director of the José María Cabral y Báez Regional University Hospital, Dr. José Luis Bautista Sosa, thanked the director of the SNS for continuing to strengthen the center with high-tech equipment.
"Today we open the new Sonography Unit thanks to the support of Dr. Julio Landrón, who has come to strengthen our imaging services with two modern sonographers and, for the first time in the history of the hospital, with a densitometer. It is not us who thank him for this contribution; it is the thousands of patients who come to this hospital every day in search of care," he said.
Bautista Sosa highlighted that with the incorporation of this equipment the hospital significantly expands its diagnostic capacity, by adding the densitometer to other specialized services such as tomography, magnetic resonance, angiography and ultrasonography, consolidating itself as one of the most complex centers in the Public Network.
The opening ceremony included the ribbon cutting of the new unit and was attended by the director of the Cibao Norte Regional Health Service, Bernardo Antonio Hilario; the senator for Santiago, Daniel Rivera; the senator for Espaillat, Carlos Manuel Gómez; hospital managers, specialist doctors and other health authorities.

El titular del SNS destacó que la incorporación del densitómetro representa un importante avance para la región, al tratarse del único equipo de este tipo disponible en un hospital de laRed Pública en el norte del país. Explicó que permitirá medir la densidad mineral ósea paradiagnosticar de forma tempranaenfermedades como la osteopenia y la osteoporosis, facilitando la indicación deltratamiento oportunoy una mejor planificación de procedimientos ortopédicos, como la colocación de prótesis. Asimismo, indicó que con la incorporación de los dos nuevos sonógrafos, el área ambulatoria del Cabral y Báez contará con tres equipos de ultrasonido,reduciendo los tiempos de esperay evitando que los pacientes deban desplazarse a otros centros para realizarse estos estudios. Landrón anunció que el SNS continuará fortaleciendo elHospital Cabral y Báezy los centros de salud de su zona de influencia, entre ellosMonte Adentro, Licey al Medio y San José de las Matas, con el propósito de descongestionar el principal hospital de referencia de la región Norte. También informó que se trabaja en la ampliación de la infraestructura hospitalaria connuevas áreas de imágenes y laboratorio, además de los levantamientos para la creación de unaUnidad de Quemados y de una Unidad de Pie Diabético, como parte de los proyectos de expansión de la cartera de servicios especializados. De igual forma, el director del Hospital Regional Universitario José María Cabral y Báez,doctor José Luis Bautista Sosa,agradeció al director del SNS por continuar fortaleciendo el centro con equipos de alta tecnología. “Hoy damos apertura a la nueva Unidad de Sonografía gracias al respaldo del doctor Julio Landrón, quien ha venido a fortalecer nuestros servicios de imágenes con dos modernos sonógrafos y, por primera vez en la historia del hospital, con un densitómetro.
