Ministerio de Agricultura adopta una serie de medidas para ampliar y fortalecer la exportación de mangos hacia Europa y los Estados Unidos
Santo Domingo.-The Ministry of Agriculture adopted a series of phytosanitary measures to expand and strengthen the export of mangoes to Europe and the United States, to continue successfully guaranteeing the export of said product, which constitutes one of the largest generators of foreign currency for national producers.
Among the actions adopted are: the appointment of engineer Jeurys Arias as the new coordinator of the fruit fly monitoring program, the creation of a commission to review 100% of the traps for capturing the insect called Anastrepha obliqua. Of that amount, about 2,089 correspond to the province of Peravia, which produces 80% of exportable mangoes. It also includes strengthening monitoring and restructuring the information automation program, among other actions.
Since 2023, the United States Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) had suggested to the then authorities to correct a series of phytosanitary weaknesses in the pre-inspection protocols, in order to continue guaranteeing the export of mango to North American territory, so the new minister, Francisco Oliverio Espaillat, after his arrival, decided to reactivate the rigorous protocols to comply with the requirements of the North American authorities.
When offering the details of the new measures adopted by instructions from the Minister of Agriculture, Francisco Oliverio Espaillat Bencosme, engineer Emidio Gómez, director of Health and Safety, revealed that the action plan also contemplates the comprehensive review of traps, correction of georeferencing and identification, as well as the development and implementation of the corrective action plan.
“It is good to note that, at the time of these new measures, between 85 and 90% of the yellow peel variety had already been exported to the United States, since the harvest had started the first week of February of this year, so only approximately 10% remained,” said Gómez.
On the other hand, he assured that, regarding the European market, exports that began at the beginning of May with the green and red peel variety continue successfully and in accordance with the established work schedule, since so far the country has not been attacked by the Ceratitis capitata fly.
Likewise, he urged producers to maintain and continue working tirelessly, since the Ministry of Agriculture will continue to give them all the necessary technical support and assistance, since mango as a product constitutes one of the products that most strongly distinguishes us in international markets.

Por otro lado, aseguró que, en cuanto almercado europeo, las exportaciones iniciadas aprincipios de mayocon la variedad cáscara verde y roja continúan de manera exitosa y de acuerdo con el cronograma de trabajo establecido, ya que hasta ahorael país no ha sido atacadopor la moscaCeratitis capitata. Asimismo, instó a los productores a mantener y seguir trabajando sin descanso, ya que desde el Ministerio de Agricultura continuarán dándoles todo elapoyo técnico y de asistencianecesaria, ya que el mango como producto constituye uno de los productos que con mayor fortalezanos distingueen los mercados internacionales.
